Nanticoke was ousted from the state Little League Major Baseball tournament Monday morning after a 5-2 loss to West Side at Rostraver Township Little League.

While District 16 and Section 5 champion Nanticoke has been eliminated from state contention, the all-stars have one game left. They will play in a consolation game at 1 p.m. Tuesday against the loser of Monday afternoon’s Harborcreek vs. Norwin game.

Nanticoke scored its only runs via solo homers. Ethan Egenski led off the second with a homer to right, his second in two games, to give Nanticoke a 1-0 lead. Nick Matson added a blast to center field in the fifth to move Nanticoke within 3-2.

West Side, the Section 7 champion from West Chester, answered back in the bottom of the fifth. Logan Culp opened the inning with a single and Dylan Grim followed with a homer to right to bump the advantage to 5-2.

Nanticoke didn’t threaten in the top of the sixth. Ayden Everett was hit by a pitch with two outs, but West Side reliever Sean Collins recorded the final out to send his team to the elimination bracket semifinals.

Nanticoke’s best chance at a big inning came in the second. After Egenski homered, Devyn Sura and Owen Brown singled. But West Side limited the damage to one run despite making two errors in the inning.

Nanticoke starter Derek Cease struck out eight in 3.2 innings before leaving when he reached his 85-pitch limit.

West Side will play at 4 p.m. Tuesday against the loser of Monday night’s game between Mechanicsburg and Keystone.
