Led by first-place finisher Jack Zardecki, who finished in 15:46, the Dallas boys cross country team secured victories over Wyoming Area, Meyers and Hanover Area on Wednesday.

Dallas teammates Josh Wyandt and Jason Culp finished second and third, respectively. Wyandt finished in 15:54 and Culp ran a 16:04 race.

Both Holy Redeemer and Hanover earned a pair of wins at the meet.

For the girls, Dallas had three of the top five finishers for victories against Holy Redeemer, Meyers and Hanover Area. Megan Borton, Riley Ovemus and Rebecca Balara took second, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Holy Redeemer’s Lidsey Williams turned in the top time, finishing in 19:26. The Royals and Hanover also earned a pair of victories.

In another cluster meet, Clay Kimsal led the way for the Crestwood boys, finishing second in 17:33, en route to wins over Wyoming Valley West, Tunkhannock and Lake-Lehman.

Hazleton Area’s Franklin Cunnigum finished first, running his race in 17:25. The Cougars also took three wins at the meet.

On the girls side, Jane Garnick’s second-place finish led Lake-Lehman to wins over Crestwood, Hazleton Area and MMI Prep on the road at Crestwood. Garnick finished in 21:28.

Hazleton’s Mary Everdale finished first in 20:40, leading the Cougars to a pair of victories on the day.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Berwick 3, Nanticoke 2

The Bulldogs outlasted the Trojans 20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 14-25, 16-14.

Madison Traugh (16 kills, 18 digs), Madelyn Pinterich (four aces, 10 kills, nine digs) and Emily Dent (three aces, 10 service points, 10 digs) led Berwick.

Tunkhannock 3,

North Pocono 1

The Tigers earned a 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 26-24 over the Trojans, led by Makayla Mills (16 kills, four blocks), Rachel Fernandez (12 assists, 12 service points, six aces), Jessica Dymond (13 service points, eight aces), Angela Colbenson (six kills, three blocks) and Megan Straley (18 digs).

Hanover Area 3,

Coughlin 1

McKenna Reedy (nine service points, two aces, two kills, three digs, five assists), Paige Jaslar (19 service points, seven aces, one kill, 10 digs) and Kaylee Cromer (three service points, three aces, nine kills) topped the Hawkeyes in a 25-14, 25-12, 16-25, 25-20 win.

Pittston Area 3,

GAR 0

Kirsten Durling’s 17 assists, four aces and one kill led Pittston Area to a 25-21, 25-21, 25-13 victory over GAR.

GIRLS TENNIS

Dallas 3, Coughlin 2

Led by a strong doubles effort, Dallas pulled out a close victory over Coughlin.

Dallas doubles pairs Emily Heltzel and Mikayla Reynolds and Greta Ketchner and Julia Evans each earned victories for the Mountaineers. Coughlin No. 1 Diana Rodriguez defeated her counterpart in straight sets.

Holy Redeemer 5,

Tunkhannock 0

Camryn Cassetori won her match in straight sets without surrendering a point as Holy Redeemer swept Tunkhannock. Royals No. 1 doubles pair Emily Evans and Lauren LaMarca also earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Wyoming Seminary 5,

Hanover Area 0

Wyoming Seminary No. 1 singles player Abbey Capin was impressive in her straight sets victory over her Hanover Area counterpart, winning 6-0, 6-1. Blue Knights No. 1 doubles pair Becca Hammerman and Alex Peck earned their victory without surrendering a single point.

Wyoming Valley West 4,

GAR 0

In a match that was shortened by rain, Wyoming Valley West No. 1 singles player Bryden Peters was dominant, winning her match 6-1, 6-1. Spartans No. 1 doubles pair Mariah Carey and Anabell Gifoli was victorious against their GAR counterpart, winning 6-1, 6-2.

Berwick 5,

Crestwood 0

Gabi Popko breezed to victory, taking down her Crestwood counterpart 6-1, 6-0. Berwick No. 1 doubles pair Alexis Zalutko and Airlia Martz won their match in straight sets without surrendering a point.

King’s 299,

Misericordia 319

Corey Palma led the field with a 3-over 73 for the unbeaten Monarchs at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

Shamus Gartley and Ryan Georgetti of King’s tied for second along with Misericordia’s Tyler McGarry at 74.

The fourth week of WVC cross country meets included a seven-team cluster hosted by Coughlin on Wednesday at Kirby Park.
