The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned forwards Carter Rowney and Jake Guentzel to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday. Both players had suited up for each of Pittsburgh’s first five preseason games, with Rowney tying for the team lead with two goals.

Rowney led Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season with 56 points – a career high, as were his 24 goals. During the playoffs he registered four goals and eight assists in 10 games.

Pittsburgh signed Rowney to a two-year, two-way contract at the end of last season.

Guentzel joined the Penguins at the end of last season after wrapping up his college career. In 10 playoff games he scored five goals and his 14 points led the team in postseason scoring.

The Penguins play their second preseason game on Saturday against the Hershey Bears at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
