MESHOPPEN — Lyndsey Williams remained unbeaten as Holy Redeemer moved from one set of opponents to another through the Wyoming Valley Conference cluster meet schedule.

When the entire conference gathered Wednesday at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds for the Ed Narkiewicz WVC Championship Meet, Williams again stood above the pack.

The Holy Redeemer junior covered the 3.1-mile course in 20:08 to win the varsity girls individual title.

Williams came away from the meet happy with the competition and what it means as she prepares for next week’s District 2 Championships at Lakeland High School.

On a day otherwise dominated by the Dallas boys and girls regular-season champions, Williams and Hazleton Area senior Mary Everdale finished 1-2 in the girls race.

“She really kept on me the whole race,” Williams said. “I was really impressed and I was glad that she was there because it pushes you to go faster and I got a pretty decent time on this course.”

Everdale was 12 seconds behind Williams and 13 ahead of the rest of the field.

“It really helps you out with the speed and the expectations of how you want to run,” Williams said of the conference meet. “I’m really glad that we do this.”

Everdale helped Hazleton Area edge Pittston Area, 73-77, in a tight race for second place in girls, behind Dallas.

Arianna Boccardi took one minute off her time from last year’s Narkiewicz Meet to finish fourth and lead Pittston Area.

Williams was part of a good day for Holy Redeemer.

The Royals boys finished third, 10 points behind second-place Berwick.

Mason Kimbell, Ty Fisher, Mitchell Martin and Jerod Waller gave the Bulldogs four of the top 11

Bryce Zapusek was eighth to lead Holy Redeemer, which had the best balance, packing all of its runners within a span of 1:10. The Royals put their five scoring runners in the top 22 and their entire seven-runner team in the top 30.

The meet, organized by the conference coaches association, also included a junior high championship.

The Hanover Area girls and Wyoming Valley West boys won the team junior high championships.

Anna Capaci from Holy Redeemer and Zachary Keiner from Hazleton Area won the individual titles.
