Pittston Area scored in each of the first three innings and held off a Mountain Top rally for a 5-4 victory in the District 16 Major Softball championship game Sunday.
Ava Serino did not allow a hit, but ran into control problems in the sixth and was replaced by Tori Para, who saved the win. Serino struck out 10 in five innings.
Kallie Booth singled and scored to lead off third for Pittston Area. Sage Weidlich doubled for Pittston Area to lead off fifth for game’s only extra-base hit.
Gabriella Ambosie and Jessica Niznik each had RBI singles in top of sixth for Mountain Top.

Harveys Lake 1
Back Mountain earns right to host Section 5 Tournament by winning the district title.
Victoria Spaciano threw a complete game with six strikeouts. She also had three hits, scored a run and drove in a run.

9-10 SOFTBALL
Mountain Top 2,
Nanticoke 1
Mountain Top’s Keira Dougherty pitched all six innings and registered four strikeouts to pick up the win.
Emily Delvecchio had a big day at the plate for Mountain Top. She singled and had an RBI triple. Delvecchio stole home to score the winning run after reaching on her single.
Nanticoke’s Allysa Rukowski doubled in the loss.

Northwest 3
Maddy Austra was 4 for 4 with two RBI for KFF. Pitcher Gabby Marosevitch worked out of a bases-loaded jam and retired the final five batters.
Back Mountain 18,
Harveys Lake 0
Allison Vitanovec and Nina Barrouk combined on a four-inning no-hitter. Vitanovec struck out nine while Barrouk fanned three.
Vitanovec, Abby Cruz and Carolyn Comitz had three hits each. Barrouk, Kirsten Finarelli, Audrianna Atherholt and Sophia Maier had two each.

Mountain Top 10,
Pittston City 0
Chris Litchkofski, Colin Lazo and Dylan Weikel combined to pitch a no-hitter for Mountain Top. The offense banged out 18 hits.
Duryea 20,
South Wilkes-Barre 7
Paul Rusincovitch was 4 for 4 while Chase Montigney added three doubles and T.J. Johnson had two hits for Duryea.
Robbie Miller had South Wilkes-Barre’s only hit.
Nanticoke 8,
Jenkins Twp. 6
Winning pitcher Derek Miller helped his own cause with three hits and five RBI as Nanticoke won in nine innings.
Adam Shotwell picked up the save. Ethan Ball and Brandon Egenski had two hits each.
Paul Jordan McGarry had three hits for Jenkins.
Hanover 10,
North Wilkes-Barre 7
Cody Richmond had three hits and scored three times for Hanover.
Shawn Kreitzer and Aidan Wiedlich each had two hits and scored twice. David Popson had three hits.
Connor Dietrick was the winning pitcher.
LEGION BASEBALL
Tunkhannock, Back Mountain split
Matt Mathers had two doubles, an RBI and scored two runs to lead Back Mountain to a 5-2 victory in the opening game. C.J Cercone went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Zane Nardone had a sacrifice fly and a two-run double to finish with three RBI.
Brian Muckin went 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored to lead Tunkhannock to a 6-5 victory in the second game. Brett Soltysiak was 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
