OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Stevenson scored three touchdowns in a 12-minute span in the first half and held off Misericordia’s second-half rally to hand the Cougars a 28-13 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

Tom Stelzer and Sam Gillison both scored for the Cougars, who battled back from an early 21-0 deficit, but the team’s rally would come short of a win. With the loss, Misericordia is now 0-4 and 0-3 in the MAC on the season.

Midway through the third quarter of play, the Cougars took advantage of a Mustangs’ turnover when Alec Rhoads recovered a mishandled punt. In the ensuing drive, Gillison took a shovel pass around the end for 15 yards and his first career TD to cut the deficit to 21-7.

After Stevenson opened the fourth quarter with an eight-play 64-yard scoring drive to make it 28-7, the Cougars looked to again find the end zone. Two drives later, that would come to fruition.

Facing fourth-and-four, quarterback Jeff Puckett found Stelzer across the middle and he broke two tackles to power his way into the end zone for his first career touchdown.

Gabe Pompette led the Cougars’ defense with 10 tackles while Tyler Collins added eight stops. Rob Hart, Jared Harris and Jordan Aquino all had six tackles.

Stevenson entered the game atop the national statistics with 18 sacks, but was limited to one late sack by the Misericordia offensive line.

FDU-Florham 29 Wilkes26

Despite a season-high 216 yards on the ground, including three rushing touchdowns, visiting Wilkes University could not hold on to a late lead falling to FDU-Florham Friday night in Middle Atlantic Conference play at Robert T. Shields Field.

Wilkes drops to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in MAC games following the defeat. FDU-Florham snapped its 20-game losing streak in the MAC with the win.

The Devils used a seven-play, 54-yard drive capped by a touchdown pass to cut the Wilkes advantage down to 20-14 with 4:01 left in the third.

Although Wilkes came right back on the offensive, wasting little time to up the lead back to double digits, when Ryan Dailey hit Aaron Coyne for a nine-yard touchdown pass, FDU-Florham scored early in the fourth to trim the Wilkes lead to 26-21 before scoring the go-ahead touchdown with four minutes to go in the contest. A two-point conversion put the Devils ahead by three giving Wilkes one last chance for a tie or win.

The Colonels responded by moving the ball to their own 44 before a Garrett Armstrong fumble was recovered by FDU-Florham ending the chance of a Wilkes rally late.

Dailey finished 24-for-40 for 267 yards and one score, the fourth straight game throwing over 200-plus yards. William Deemer topped the Wilkes receivers with nine catches for 121 yards. PJ Incremona led the ground game with 80 yards on 14 carries, while Brandon Latierno finished with 57 yards on 19 attempts and Devon Fink amassed 50 yards on nine rushes.

Nick LaVecchia, filling in for the Devils starting quarterback who was out with an injury, finished 26-for-33 for 229 yards and four touchdowns to lead the offense for FDU-Florham.

Neojoe Lughas and Tanner Stengel topped the Wilkes defense with 12 tackles each. Jared Powell and Isaiah Robinson each recorded an interception in the secondary.
