King’s put together one of its most impressive rushing displays in program history as 397 of the team’s 562 total yards came on the ground in the Monarchs’ 52-13 victory over FDU-Florham on the road on Saturday.

King’s entered the matchup ranked first in the MAC in passing with 288 yards per-game, but the Monarchs were ninth with 92.0 yards per-game.

Freshman tailback Alvonte Thompson and junior quarterback Zach Whitehead combined to rush for 320 yards as King’s put forth its highest single-game rushing total since gaining 341 yards against Misericordia in 2012.

The total also stands as the highest single-game mark since the Monarchs ran for 427 yards against Moravian in 1997.

King’s register 34 first downs in the game compared to 14 for FDU. The Monarchs also held a huge advantage in possession time, holding onto the ball for 40:47 of the 60 minutes of play.

King’s 2, Eastern 1

King’s kept its postseason hopes alive with their third straight win while eliminating the Eastern from contention for the second straight year.

The Monarchs need to beat FDU-Florham in their final conference game next Saturday to clinch a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Kristen Ryan led King’s with a goal and an assist. Danielle Putnam scored a goal while Allison Andrew recorded an assist. Jess Schenfeld made two saves in goal to pick up the win.

Misericordia 2, FDU-Florham 0

Misericordia clinched the top seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament with a win over FDU-Florham.

Emily Szeflinski had a goal and an assist and Amber Hartranft added a goal. Jacqueline Stevens assisted on both goals for the Cougars.

MEN’S SOCCER

Eastern 1, King’s 0

Cade Harmon scored the lone goal of the game to lead the Eastern past King’s on a windy day at Olson Field in St. Davids.

The Monarchs outshot the Eagles 7-6 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

King’s sweeps tri-meet

The Monarchs posted respective 3-0 victories over Bryn Athyn College and Cairn University to improve to 18-11 on the year.

In the opener, King’s defeated Bryn Athyn by scores of 25-7, 25-12, 25-22. Rachel Miller led the way with 14 kills and seven digs. Katelyn Shifflett followed with nine kills and three digs while Olivia Musto added eight kills and two digs.

Against Cairn, King’s won by scores of 25-15, 25-17, 25-13. Miller again led the attack with 15 kills, five aces, and nine digs. Shifflett followed with 10 kills and four service aces while Musto also contributed 10 kills.

Wilkes splits pair at Colonel Clash

Wilkes split a pair of matches on Day 2 of the 2016 Colonel Clash Tournament hosted at the Marts Center. Wilkes picked up a 3-0 sweep of CCNY before falling in four sets 3-1 to Alfred State.

Wilkes beat CCNY 25-10, 25-17 and 25-20. Ally Paskas continued her fine play on the attack finishing with a team-high eight kills in just two sets of action. Jamey Mikovich followed with seven kills and two service aces while Alex Ferrier added four kills and Abby Sander, Grace Boyle and Madison Scarfaro each tallied three kills in limited action.

Alfred State took the second match of the day over Wilkes 25-18, 20-25, 25-15 and 25-11. Paskas and Boyle each finished with team-high 10 kills on the Colonel front line.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

Misericordia drops tri-meet

Misericordia dropped a tri-meet to East Stroudsburg, 167-81, and Kutztown, 161-96.

Grace Nikolski won the 100 breaststroke with a school record 1:08.15 for the Cougars. She teamed with Sierra Schertler, Kaitlyn Weatherby and Morgan Hanadel (4:09.06) to win the 200 medley relay.

Drew 106, King’s 88

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Monarchs freshman Kirsten Siwy set a new school-record in her first-ever collegiate meet with a time of 2:29.57. She also won the 200-individual medley at 2:17.48 .

In the women’s 1000-freestyle, Katie Fitch was second with a time of 11:45.24. She was also second in the 500-freestyle at 5:45.81. In the 50-freestyle, Brigid Wynn was second with a 27.80. In the 200-butterfly, Lauren Pham touched second at 2:33.60. King’s 200-freestyle relay team of Wynn, Fitch, Jacqueline Molnar, and Kailie Karensky were winners with a 1:54.79.

Wilkes 124, Cobleskill 117

Wilkes’ Morgan Williams took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:15.61 and first in the 500 freestyle at 6:01.23. She also took second place in the 100 freestyle at 1:02.85. Allie Aspey claimed first in the 200 freestyle at 2:15.99 while Cassie Morey was a first place finisher in the 100 butterfly at 1:12.36 and the 50 butterfly at 30.44.

Shannon Hogan broke the school record in the 100 IM coming in at 1:08.60 and a first place spot.

MEN’S SWIMMING

Drew 105.5, King’s 91.5

King’s sophomore transfer Dan Weeks set two new school records in his King’s debut. In the men’s 50-freestyle, Weeks was victorious with a time of 21.84. He also finished first in the 100-freestyle at 48.75.

In the 500-freestyle, Bryce Groshardt was victorious with a time of 5:01.09. He was second in the 200-individual medley at 2:03.85. In the men’s 1000-freestyle, Chris Soutter was second with a time of 11:01.19. In the 200-freestyle, Chris Dionne finished second with a 1:54.92

Wilkes 140, Cobleskill 125

Tyler Weatherby set the school mark in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:30.41, claiming first place in the process. The rookie also broke the 100 IM record finishing at 1:01.38 for first place. Weatherby also earned first in the 500 freestyle finishing at 5:37.77.

Nick Walker took home first place in the 50 breaststroke touching in at 30.99 and first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:09.02. Wilkes saw a trio of top finishers in the 100 butterfly with Anthony Stampone taking home first place at 1:03.08. Stampone also set the school record in the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.40.

FIELD HOCKEY

Misericordia 4, DeSales 0

Kyleigh Knell scored twice while Colby Eldridge and Kailey Vogl each scored once. Eldridge added three assists while Vogl added one.

FDU-Florham 3, King’s 0

Maggie Sohns scored two goals to lead FDU-Florham to a 3-0 victory over King’s in a battle of first-place teams.

The Monarchs struggled all afternoon against the stingy FDU-Florham defense recording just three shots. The Devils had nine shots and held a 18-11 advantage in penalty corners. Paige Tedik made four saves in cage for King’s.
