WILKES-BARRE — Whether it’s the athletes, coaches, front office staff, athletic directors or training staff, it takes a small community to build a winning atmosphere, no matter the level of the sport.

Success is like a 1,000-piece puzzle. Without each and every one, the job isn’t done.

Away From the Game profiles movers and shakers in the Wyoming Valley athletics world, and this week we’re mixing it up. We’re featuring the three new local college hockey coaches: King’s College head men’s coach Stephen Mallaro, King’s head women’s coach Jen Kindret and Wilkes University women’s head coach Stephanie Newmark.

Each of the three coaches have uphill battles ahead of them. All three are first-time head coaches responsible for shaping brand new programs preparing to make their debuts next fall.

The Wilkes men’s program is set to debut in 2018-19.
