Mike Bonita

Wyoming Area

Jr. outfielder

The Warriors did plenty of damage on the basepaths and Bonita was at the forefront. The leading hitter for the Division 2 champs was well north of .400 and was on base as much as anyone and was good at causing havoc for opposing defenses from there. Despite hitting leadoff all year, he also drove in eight runs.

Tim Cavanaugh

Holy Redeemer

Jr. infielder

A steady presence in the middle of the Royals lineup, Cavanaugh led the team in batting average, RBI, runs scored and triples. Only a few players in the entire WVC topped his 11 RBI as he came through in plenty of big spots, including drawing a bases-loaded walk that clinched the school’s first Division 3 title.

Jordan DiValerio

Berwick

Sr. pitcher

For years, DiValerio was one of the most reliable arms in the entire league, and his final campaign with the Bulldogs was no different. The St. Joseph’s recruit turned in an impressive 1.64 ERA over 43 innings in the regular season and then closed his career with an eight-inning shutout in the district playoffs.

Eric Evans

Northwest

Sr. outfielder

A four-year letter winner for the Rangers, Evans excelled in the leadoff spot and in center field. After a strong regular season in which he hit above .350 and led the entire WVC with four triples, he was outstanding in Northwest’s District 2 Class 2A championship run, hitting .750 (9 for 12) in four games.

Ryan Gilgallon

Meyers

Jr. pitcher/infielder

At the forefront of a pitching staff that led the Wyoming Valley Conference in team ERA, Gilgallon allowed just six earned runs in 33 innings and finished with a mark of 1.27 himself. At the plate, he settled into the No. 3 spot in the lineup and heated up at the end of the year, adding two more hits in the district opener.

Josh Kopcza

Wyoming Area

Jr. infielder/pitcher

Kopcza stepped up in a big way for the Warriors as a full-time starter on the mound (0.66 ERA) and at the plate, where he finished near .400 and led the team with nine RBI. As the staff ace, he struck out 45 in 42 innings and shut out three-time defending district champ Abington Heights in the playoffs.

Kyle Kowalski

Hanover Area

Jr. pitcher/infielder

A two-time all-star, Kowalski continued to step up in the biggest games, throwing two more shutouts in the district tournament, including his second straight one-hitter in the semifinals. During the regular season, he went the distance four times and allowed just eight earned runs in 40 innings (1.40 ERA).

Cory Lescavage

Wyoming Area

Sr. infielder/pitcher

One of the top all-around players in the entire league, Lescavage added steady varsity pitcher to his resume, going 4-0 with a 2.10 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 33 regular season innings. On top of that, the two-time all-star still proved to be one of the Warriors’ top hitters (.429) while playing strong defense at short.

Livan Reinoso

Hazleton Area

Jr. outfielder/pitcher

Thanks to graduation and injuries, the Cougars had to replace their entire lineup from their 2015 district finalist squad. Reinoso was a huge part of the new crew, gaining confidence as the season went along to claim the WVC batting title at .475. He drove in nine and added a walk-off homer against Valley West.

Brandon Reno

Northwest

Sr. infielder

A prominent member of the Rangers’ impressive senior class, Reno helped lead the program to the first district baseball championship in school history. A .350 hitter in the regular season and a reliable presence at shortstop, he turned in a strong postseason with six hits and six RBI in the district tournament.

Kevin Rimmer

Hanover Area

Sr. pitcher/infielder

After a strong season on the mound as a junior, Rimmer responded with an even better senior campaign, including a big improvement at the plate. In helping the Hawkeyes reach another district title game, he struck out 30 in 30 regular-season innings with a 1.17 ERA while hitting .390 with 13 RBI and two homers.

Justin Vought

Wyoming Valley West

Jr. catcher

A year after memorable performances in the state semifinals and championship, Vought settled nicely into the clean-up spot of a tough Valley West lineup. The Maryland recruit hit .439 with two home runs and 14 RBI while backstopping the Spartans to another District 2 crown, driving in two runs in the finals.

Sean Wills

Holy Redeemer

Soph. pitcher/outfielder

Tough to have a better varsity mound debut than Wills, who turned in the WVC’s best ERA among starters in the regular season. The sophomore surrendered just one earned run (and only three total) in just under 30 innings for an 0.24 ERA. He also hit .300 with eight RBI for the Division 3 champs.

Tyler Yankosky

Wyoming Valley West

Sr. pitcher/infielder

Yankosky came through in the biggest games, pitching a two-hitter to win the district title and a three-hitter in the PIAA opener. He had 25 strikeouts in 21 postseason innings after fanning 34 in the regular season with a 1.79 ERA. He hit .410 in the regular season with 11 RBI before driving in seven more runs during a terrific playoff run.

Aaron Yurko

Dallas

Sr. infielder/pitcher

A big factor for the Mountaineers at the plate and on the mound, Yurko hit .371 while leading the team with nine RBI to go with a home run. He joins the steady run of solid pitchers at Dallas in recent years, finishing with a 1.96 ERA, highlighted by a complete game shutout of Wyoming Area at the end of the year.
