High school field hockey: Kara Sanford breaks Hazleton Area school record

Kara Sanford became Hazleton Area’s leader in career points after her five goals and four assists in the Cougars’ 10-1 win over Pittston Area in a WVC field hockey game on Tuesday.

Victoria Middleton netted three goals while Megan Reed tallied one goal and three assists to futher help the Cougar’s effort.

Bailey Jordan scored the only goal of the game for the Patriots.

Coughlin 3, Wyoming Valley West 0

Kyra Wozniak and Brigid Wood had a goal and a helper while Katie Anderson scored another as Coughlin defeated Wyoming Valley West. The Crusaders outshot the Spartans 17-4 and the goalie tandem of M’Kensie Lee and Megan Novak made four combined saves to secure the shutout.

Dallas 2, Honesdale 0

Emily Farrell and Maddie Kelley each scored a goal in the first half as Dallas topped Honesdale.

Samantha Banks recorded an assist, while Melinda Ratchford made three saves in the win.

Nanticoke 6, Hanover Area 1

Megan Kocher scored a hat trick for the second straight night as she led Nanticoke over Hanover Area. Liz Colmire helped the Trojan’s effort by providing three assists while goalie Miranda Gola made five saves for Nanticoke.

Karly Bennet scored the lone goal of the game for the Hawkeyes.

Wyoming Area 7, GAR 0

Bree Bednarski scored four times, Jillian Spak had a goal and two assists and Grace Angelella recorded three helpers as Wyoming Area shutout GAR. The Warriors had 26 shots on goal and keeper Katie Wolfgang made four saves to get the shutout.

Delaware Valley 3, Wallenpaupack 0

Kara Gearhart, Maecy Chlebowski and Lyndsay Floystad each scored a goal for Delaware Valley as they went on to defeat Wallenpaupack.

Lake-Lehman 4, Holy Redeemer 0

Kate Supey scored two goals while Maranda Moosic and Sarah Sabaluski each scored one as Lake-Lehman defeated Holy Redeemer. Taylor Alba, Lilli Stepanski, Makayla Adams and Izzy Radel all collected assists during the game for the Black Knights.
