MONTROSE — Mark Robinson found three different ways to reach the end zone Friday night.
Robinson scored on a 80-yard kickoff return in the first quarter, a 29-yard pass reception in the second quarter and a 60-yard run on the first play of the second half to help Meyers rout host Montrose, 41-17, in a non-league high school football opener on Friday night.
The Mohawks were leading just, 6-3, when Robinson caught the kickoff on the run, never broke stride and made it down the left sideline for the score with 10 seconds left in the first quarter.
Robinson struck again in the final minute of the first half. He pulled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Willie Wallace as he headed for the left corner to give Meyers a 27-3 halftime lead.
The Mohawks broke the game open early in the second half, sending into the mercy rule.
Robinson went around the right end and won the race to the end zone to open the third quarter.
Fahbian Biggs ran on five straight plays, picking up three first downs, including a 15-yard touchdown run with 7:23 left in the third quarter to complete Meyers’ scoring at 41-3.
Namir Murphy ran 11 yards for a touchdown with 1:57 left in the first quarter to open the scoring. The extra point was blocked.
The Mohawks were penalized five times in the first 10 minutes while the game was scoreless.
Montrose scored twice late against Meyers reserves.
Robinson carried four times for 142 yards and caught two passes for 37 yards.
