Berwick began the season on a high note, sweeping North Pocono 25-18, 25-21 and 25-23 on the opening day of the boys volleyball season.

Dylan Michael had two aces, eight kills and eight digs, while Ethan Potter recorded two aces, 12 service points, 24 assists and 10 digs and Gabe Oliver chipped in with 14 kills and 10 digs.

Holy Redeemer 3, Hazleton Area 0

Luke Nealon and Ben Rachilla had 11 kills a piece as the Royals swept Hazleton Area, 25-8, 25-10, 25-15.

Mike Mohutsky finished with 18 service points, one assist and four digs, while Jim Stepanski finished with 17 service points, 18 assists and two digs. Jude Height recorded seven service points in the victory.

Hazleton Area’s Everett Fritz had five kills, Matthew Boretski finished with six assists and Will Earrientos recorded 17 digs.

Crestwood 3, Tunkhannock 1

Michael Williams’ 37 assists, 15 service points and eight aces led Crestwood’s victory over Tunkhannock.

Match scores were: 25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 25-10.

Noah Jackson finished with 16 kills and eight blocks, Jeremy Jones had 15 service points and six digs and Noah Modrovsky chipped in with 10 digs, 7 service points and seven kills in the win.

Paul Binner led the Tigers with 12 assists and two aces, while Avery Billings had 10 kills, seven service points and three blocks.

BOYS TENNIS

Holy Redeemer 5, Hazleton Area 0

Royals’ Chris Kocon took the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Chris Kovalick.

Redeemer’s No. 1 doubles team of Dominic Marchese and Mark Harrison won 6-0, 6-0.

Crestwood 5, Wyoming Area 0

Brandon Krupa topped Joseph Skrip 6-1, 7-5 to lead the Comets’ 5-0 win.

The Crestwood duo of Sam Majdic and Zach Anderson won No. 1 doubles 6-4, 6-4.

COLLEGES

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

King’s 13, Immaculata 12

After jumping out to a 11-5 lead, King’s held on for a 13-12 win over Immaculata University.

With the win, King’s improved to 3-4.

Anastasia Araviakis led King’s with three goals and two assists, including her 100th goal of her career. Gabriella Morrocu and Katy Higinbothom chipped in with three goals and one assist apiece. Kendra McCoy scored two goals while Tabitha Truelson and Sarah Almony scored once each.

Victoria Zawacki had 13 saves for King’s.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

New Jersey City 3,

Wilkes 2

Trailing 2-1, Wilkes rallied to win the fourth set before falling in the fifth and deciding set at New Jersey City.

John Pietrzyk led all Wilkes hitters with a career-high 18 kills and eight digs. Thomas Bogarowski and Daniel Sales each tallied 10 kills. Daniel Sales led the Colonels passing game with 33 assists. Bogarowski added a team-high 14 digs.

Wilkes falls to 6-13 overall.
