Coughlin won its first game of the season in a thrilling five-set match with Dallas in boys volleyball action on Tuesday.

Set scores were 17-25, 25-17, 25-13, 29-31, 15-7.

Coughlin’s Kyle Williams finished with 12 kills, 13 assists, 13 service points, 10 digs and four aces, while Joe Gayton chipped in with two kills, four assists, 14 service points, eight aces and 15 digs. Derek Whitesell recorded five kills, three blocks, six assists, 11 service points, two aces and 10 digs in the win.

Dallas’ Corbin Thompson led the way with 15 kills, seven service points and three aces and Danny Harpersberger finished with 15 digs, eight service points, two aces and seven kills. Caleb Hill had 25 assists, 12 service points, five aces and three kills for the Mountaineers.

Nanticoke 3, Hanover 0

Josh Baranowski’s eight kills, four aces and three service points led the Trojans’ 25-11, 25-4, 25-7 sweep of Hanover.

Teammate Zach Cardone finished with 14 service points, four aces and three digs, while Alec Divers added 13 assists, four blocks and two digs.

Hanover’s Brennen Johnson recorded three digs, two blocks and one assist and Joseph Scudder finished with three service points, one dig and one assist.

Delaware Valley 3, Crestwood 0

Crestwood’s Noah Jackson had 12 kills and two blocks, but Delaware Valley proved to be too much in a 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 sweep.

Michael Williams finished with 21 assists, 17 digs and eight service points and Noah Modrovsky had five kills and six blocks for the Comets (2-4).

SOFTBALL

Meyers 13, GAR 7

Alexis Bruno did it all in the Mohawks’ victory.

In the circle, Bruno picked up the win in five innings of work, striking out 12 and giving up one hit and one run. At the plate, she was 2 for 3 with a triple and a three-run homer in the third inning.

Nanticoke 11,

Pittston Area 0

Jenna Lipowski went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs and teammate Miranda Bohn pitched a four-hit, shutout in Nanticoke’s victory.

Brinley Sobeck doubled and was 2 for 4 from the plate. Cassie Novakowski also doubled in the win.

Crestwood 7, Coughlin 1

The Comets used a five-run third inning to cruise past Coughlin.

Haley Naperkowski went five innings, giving up one run and three hits and struck out five batters to earn the win. Morghan Murphy was 2 for 4.

Coughlin’s lone run of the day was courtesy of Tori Martin’s solo shot.

BOYS TENNIS

Crestwood 4, Wyoming Valley West 1

Brandon Krupa, Nick Andrews and Sachin Patel each recorded singles victories as the Comets improved to 5-0.

Valley West’s lone win of the day came in No. 1 doubles from the team of Liam Bradley and Draig Ruff.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Dallas 13, Hazleton 2

Samantha Delamater scored four goals and Lauren Delamater added three and assisted on another in the Mountaineers’ win.

Dallas’ Darian Guidry made eight saves.

Meleah Hoats and Laura Byzick each scored a goal and Jenna Corra made 22 saves for Hazleton.
