Wyoming Seminary sophomore Marcos Rico broke a pair of pool records at the Wyoming Valley West Ray Wills Invitational Saturday. Rico won the 200 IM in 1:56.18 and the 100 breaststroke in 57.06 to lead the Blue Knights to victory, with 277 points.

Host Wyoming Valley West finished in second with 214.50 points, followed by Tunkhannock (166) and Hazleton Area (119.5).

Wyoming Valley West 200 medley relay team (Maxim Kowalski, Zac Rosencrans, Logan Fluegel and Josh Zawatski) finished in 1:36.36 to won its race, and in doing so broke both a program and pool record.

Wyoming Seminary’s Stan Zaneski also won a pair of events, taking the 50 freestyle in 21.67 and 100 free in 47.99. Fluegel (100 butterfly) and Wyoming Seminary’s Matt Bean (100 backstroke) also won individual events.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Sem blows out field at Ray Wills Invy

Wyoming Seminary’s Haley Thier and April Kupsky won a pair of individual events to pace the Blue Knights to a Wyoming Valley West Ray Wills Invitational victory, totalling 300 points.

Thier won the 100 butterfly in 59.00 and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.68, while Kupsky finished first in the 200 free in 1:57.17 and 500 free in 5:17. 26.

Wyoming Valley West finished second with 151 points, while Berwick came in third with 145 points, Tunkhannock finished fourth with 132 points and Hazleton Area was fifth 120 points.

Wyoming Valley West’s Alexis Ivanitch win the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.19.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Harth, Luzzi pace Cougars

Mike Harth and Sean Luzzi were the top finishers for Misericordia at the Bombers Invitational. Harth was 11th at 60m (7.29) and Luzzi finished 12th at 800m (2:00.02).

Harth joined Devin Oyola, Michael Dube and Juwan Petties-Jackson to place third in the 4×200 (1:33.24).

Harth, Luzzi and Oyola teamed with Tyler Lamberson to finish seventh in the 4x400m (3:29.19).

King’s has strong showing at Frank Colden invy

The Monarchs set five new school records competing against a large field of NCAA Division I, II, III, club teams, and unattached athletes. There was no team scoring at the meet.

Nick Cionci broke the school record in the 200 meter with a time of 24.82. He bested the time of 25.12 that Joe Falcone ran at last year’s Bow-Tie Classic.

Michael Havrilla ran a school-record time of 16:37.08 in the 5,000 meter. He bested Connor Lyons’ time of 17:36.21 that he ran at last year’s Bow-Tie Classic.

Matthew Marsh finished fifth out of 21 competitors, in the pole vault, with a height of 3.85 meters setting the school record as the first mark in program history in the event.

Marsh became the first-ever student-athlete from King’s to compete in the pentathlon. He finished second out of 11 competitors in the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best and new school record time of 9.24. He beat his previous record of 9.62 then he ran at the Bow-Tie Classic in December. After not recording a mark in the high jump he threw 8.30 meters (27-2.75) in the shot put and then jumped 5.14 meters (16-10.50) in the long jump. He finished the day with a time of 3:22.25 in the 1,000 meter run.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

King’s sets 6 school records

The Lady Monarchs set six new school records.

Margaret Bentkowski ran her personal-best time of 29.17 in the 200-meter dash to improve her own school record time of 29.4 that she ran at last week’s John Covert Classic.

In the 400-meter dash, Lauren Sterner qualified for the MAC Championships with a time of 1:06.65 and established a new school record by topping Margaret Bentkowski’s time of 1:08.89 that she ran at the John Covert Classic last week. Gabrielle Longchamp finished with a time of 1:12.44 while Kristine Bentkowski crossed the line in 1:13.12.

Ashlyn Mattis recorded her personal best mark of 2.43 meters to break her own previous pole vault school record of 2.30 meters that she set at last year’s John Covert Classic.

Brenna Smudde had a personal-best jump of 9.34 meters (30-7.75) to break her own triple jump school record of 8.67 meters that she set last year at the Albright Invitational.
