Sydney Hornlein threw a complete-game shutout giving up two hits and striking out 12 batters as Back Mountain defeated North Pocono 5-0 in Section 5 Majors softball action on Tuesday night.

Teammates Alison Francis and Riley Wren each hit two singles.

Emily Blaine recorded two hits for North Pocono.

Nanticoke 13, Wallenpaupack 0, 5 inns.

Jessica Skladzien threw a no-hitter with nine strikeouts as Nanticoke charged to victory.

Lauren Mullery finished with three singles and a double, Gabby Rakowski had a triple and a single and Kasidy Slusser chipped in with three singles. Teammates Rielly Miller, Abby Cullen, Riley Baird and Jen Kurkoski had two singles a piece in the win.

DISTRICT 16

MAJOR BASEBALL

Mountain Top 13,

North Wilkes-Barre 0, 4 inns.

Max Albee hit a home run in the second inning to go along with his single as Mountain Top defeated North Wilkes-Barre.

Albee and Jackson Amend teamed up to pick up the win on the mound.

Ryan Harding and Zach Andrews both singled and doubled, and Nico Schwartz chipped in with two hits.

For North Wilkes-Barre, Hayden Krzywicki, Jake Drevitch and Tyler Boranski each had a hit.

Hanover 15,

Jenkins Twp./Duryea 1, 4 inn.

Joe Curcio struck out seven and gave up one hit as Hanover clinched a berth in the semifinals. It will play at Mountain Top at 2 p.m. Saturday.

At the plate, Curcio had two hits. Connor Hummer hit a home run in the third inning, while Aaron Wickiser, Brenden Boehm, Mike Eastman and Jamie Cunard each chipped in with two hits.

For Jenkins Twp./Duryea, Cameron Kohut and Drew O’Malley each had a hit.

Plains 11, Avoca/Dupont 9

Dante Vitale and Daren Clarke each hit a home run, while Matt Egidio added four hits to Plains’ win.

Ian Gartley had two hits and Chad Regan was the winning pitcher. Plains will host Pittston Township at 2 p.m. Saturday in the semifinals.

Avoca/Dupont’s Alex Hoban hit a grand slam and Will Aldrich had three hits.

South Wilkes-Barre 6,

North Wilkes-Barre 2

South Wilkes-Barre used a combined four pitchers — Blake Bymon, Jack Gilgallon, Jason Carver and Gavin Flanley — to get the win over North Wilkes-Barre on Monday night.

Talee Swinney hit a double and had two RBI, Bryce Unvarsky blasted a single and registered an RBI and Joel Vazquez had a single.

Matt Karpien had double for North Wilkes-Barre.

DISTRICT 16

10-11 BASEBALL

Mountain Top 6, Plains 5

Adam Litchkofski hit the game-winning RBI in the sixth inning to drive in Collin Wills as Mountain Top slipped past Plains.

Teammate Nick Kreuzer hit a grand slam in the fifth inning, while Collin Williams picked up the win on the mound.

Plains’ Connor Kane hit a home run in the second inning to put Plains on top 1-0.

Nanticoke 12, South Wilkes-Barre 7

Devyn Sura was 4 for 4 with a triple and Bryant Keegan finished 3 for 4 with a double as Nanticoke rolled to victory.

Ayden Everett had three singles (3 for 3), while Hayden Reakes was 2 for 2 with a double.

Everett, Sura and Aiden Ball combined for the win on the mound.

South Wilkes-Barre’s Tyler Faust was 2 for 2 and Jaiden Evans (1 for 2) singled.

DISTRICT 31

10-11 BASEBALL

Exeter 13, Kingston/Forty Fort 3

Matt Pelleschi hit a three-run homer and pitcher Jack Mathis fanned five in the victory.

Jack Gorham and Chris Hannagan each singled and scored for KFF.
