Wyoming Seminary graduate Kelsey Kolojejchick started at midfield and scored the final goal Monday when the United States defeated Uruguay, 5-0, in a Pan American Games women’s field hockey opener in Toronto.

The champion of the eight-team tournament qualifies for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Kolojejchick scored from the right side of the cage with less than five minutes remaining.

Paige Selenski, a forward from Dallas and 2012 Olympian, joined Kolojejchick in the starting lineup.

Wyoming Seminary graduate Kat Sharkey was originally part of the roster named for the Pan Am Games. Sharkey, however, was unable to make the trip to Toronto and was replaced by Emily Wold, another member of the Women’s National Team, on the active roster for the tournament.

The United States has pool play games Wednesday against Chile and Friday against Cuba. Pool play does not eliminate teams but determines seeds for next week’s quarterfinals.
