Former Wyoming Seminary standout George Parkhurst was among four double winners as King’s College downed Lycoming, 7-2 in a men’s college tennis match Sunday in Williamsport.

Parkhurst won the top singles match, 6-0, 6-1 and teamed with John Labiak to win the No. 1 doubles match, 8-1.

Labiak, Nathan Carl and Terry Briggs all joined Parkhurst in winning twice, helping King’s sweep doubles play.

.The Monarchs will be idle until the MAC Individual Championships October 17-18 at Kirby Park.

Trumbo’s Goal Propels Women’s Soccer Past Stevenson

OWINGS MILLS, MD.- Sophomore forward Shelby Trumbo scored the only goal of the game to lead the Wilkes University women’s soccer team over Stevenson University by a 1-0 final on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Colonels improved to 3-6-1 while the Mustangs fell to 3-7-0.

Trumbo scored in the first minute, twenty seconds into the game when she launched a shot from 25 yards out past Stevenson’s goalkeeper for the game-winner.

Wilkes held a seven to five advantage on shots hitting their target.

Senior goalkeeper Kate Mahoney made five saves for her third shutout of the season.

The Lady Colonels return to action on Tuesday when they travel to the University of Scranton for a 7 p.m. non-conference match and return home on Friday October 2nd when they host FDU-Florham for a 5 p.m. Freedom-opening match during homecoming weekend.

Field Hockey

King’s 4, Ramapo 1

Kelsey Gabriele redirected a loose ball in front of the net for the game’s first goal to trigger the Monarchs victory.

Former Coughlin High School standout Caitlin Wood scored an unassisted goal in the second half to boost the King’s lead to 3-0.

Golf

Wilkes finishes fifth

Alex Anderson claimed third place overall in the Anthracite Golf Association Invitational by shooting a 77 on Sunday at the Country Club of Scranton.

Anderson opened the two-day tourney by shooting a 75 and finished with a nine over 152 on the Par 72 course.

Wilkes finished fifth among the six teams in the tourney.

Girls Soccer

Wyoming Seminary 2, GAR 1 (2OT)

Olivia Lovito scored with 4:45 remaining in the second overtime to left the Blue Knights in a high school girls soccer game played Saturday.

Alyssa Kristeller scored the game’s first goal less than three minutes into the second half, but GAR tied it on Miranda Brazinski’s goal miday through the second half.

Julia Iskra stopped 12 shots for Sem.
