High school sports roundup: Carlos Novelo’s goal lifts GAR past Pittston Area in OT

Carlos Novelo scored with 9:17 left in overtime to push GAR past Pittston Area, 3-2, in boys soccer action on Tuesday. Frankie Espinoza scored the other two goals for the Grenadiers while Novelo collected an assist on one of them.

Pittston Area received a goal from both Jimmy Pliska and Dominic Stella in near the end of the second half, but were unable to complete the comeback.

GIRLS SOCCER

Crestwood 7, Meyers 2

Melissa Herrera and Bree Fetterman recorded two goals and two assists each while Sam Brumagin tallied a goal and a helper to lead Crestwood to victory over Meyers.

McKenna Mera, goalie for the Comets, made three saves during the game.

Kayley Nilon scored both of the goals for the Mohawks.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lake-Lehman 6, Northwest 0

Kate Supey figured in on four goals, scoring three and assisting on another for the Black Knights. Makayla Adams added a goal and an assist while Alicia Galasso earned the shutout.

Jackie Jones made 22 saves for the Rangers.

Delaware Valley 2, Honesdale 1

Maecy Chlebowski and Grace Conselyea each scored a goal as Delaware Valley doubled up on Honesdale. Sophia Festa made five saves during the contest for Delaware Valley.

Emily McVeich tallied the only goal for Honesdale.

Coughlin 4, Pittston Area 0

Brigid Wood scored two goals and assisted on another as the Crusaders topped Pittston Area. Kalie Reed and Katie Anderson also had goals for Coughlin while the goalie tandem of Megan Novak and M’Kensie Lee made seven saves to secure the shut out.

Wyoming Valley West 5, Wallenpaupack 0

Foto Tsioles scored a hat trick while Erin Gibbons netted two goals of her own as they led Wyoming Valley West over Wallenpaupack. Mercedes Jasterzenski recorded two assists during the game and the Spartans out shot their opponent 33-0.
