Junior forward Kayla Feairheller posted a team-high 19 points and the King’s College women’s basketball team held Ramapo College to just 25.4 percent shooting for the game as the Lady Monarchs opened the 2015-16 season with a 56-38 road win Sunday in Mahwah, NJ.

Feairheller made 7-of-14 shots from the field, including a trio of three-pointers, while hauling down seven rebounds. Seitz followed with 13 points, four steals, and three assists while also making three shots from downtown.

Jennifer Fabian tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds while former Wyoming Valley West standout Olivia Hoffman contributed two points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Tara Zdancewicz and Shae Grim chipped in with three points apiece.

In the third quarter King’s came out of the locker room and used a two three-pointers from Fabian and a three-pointer and two free throws by Kasey Seitz to open up a 34-17 lead with 6:12 to play in the period. But Rampo countered with a 15-1 run to cut the King’s led to 35-32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Marywood marches to season-opening win

Marywood University opened its women’s basketball season with a 68-50 loss to Lebanon Valley College played Saturday night in a neutral-site contest at Martz Hall in Pottsville, Pa.

Freshman Gabriella Giordano (Holy Cross) finished with 16 points for the Pacers. Senior Alexa Gerchman (Dunmore) joined her in double figures with 13 points.

Courtney Murray (Dunmore) had four steals and six points.

High school field hockey

State semifinals set

Crestwood will battle Twin Valley and defending state champion Villa Maria will face Donegal in a pair of 6 p.m. games Tuesday in the PIAA Class 2A field hockey semifinals.

Unbeaten Crestwood (19-0) will take on Twin Valley (25-2) at Emmaus High School, while Villa Maria plays Donegal – which just passed Crestwood as the top-ranked Class 2A team in Pennsylvania – at Twin Valley High School.

In the Class 3A state field hockey semifinals, Emmaus will travel to Exeter Twp. High School for the start of a doubleheader after eliminating Coughlin in Saturday’s quarterfinal round to take on Penn Manor in a 5 p.m. game. Downingtown East and Palmyra will then take the Exeter Twp. field for a 7 p.m. showdown in the other state semifinal.
