King’s will square off against crosstown rival Wilkes on Wednesday night in a college basketball doubleheader at Scandlon Gymnasium.

The women’s game will start at 6 p.m. and the men will kickoff at 8 p.m.

Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $2 for seniors, $2 for non-King’s students showing I.D. In addition, children under age-six shall be admitted free. King’s College students attend free at all ticketed events with the presentation of their current student I.D.

Penn State Wilkes-Barre fell in a battle of PSUAC contenders.

Nanticoke grad Deanna Thomas scored 14 points and Majeedah Nealy (GAR) added 12 to lead the Lady Lions.

Freshman Mikal Battle knocked down six 3-pointers to score 18 points in a PSUAC victory.

Chris Cantine and Rodney Christian added 11 points each in the win.

Boys

Berwick 2,649, Hazleton Area 2,605

Berwick defeated Hazleton Area 2,649-2,605 in a high school bowling match on Monday.

Brandon Updike led the Cougars with a 261 high game and 646 series. Gavin Lehman finished with a 213 high game and a 603 series, Zachary Bergensen recorded a 192 high game, Tyler Herbinko had a 173 high game and a 463 series. Christopher Nahay chipped in with a 192 high game and Ryan Walker finished with a 154 high game.

Girls

Berwick 2,452, Hazleton Area 2,243

Hazleton Area’s Jenna Rapach earned a 229 high game and 551 series. Tabatha Kanuck finished with a 177 high game, Samantha Walsh had a 147 high game, Meghan Lizbinski recorded a 165 high game and 389 series. Josie Middleton finished with a 425 series and Morgan Strum with a 144 high game.

COLLEGE WRESTLING

King’s 29, Oneonta State 18

Visiting Oneonta State overcame two forfeits by winning five of their six matches with bonus points as the Red Dragons posted a victory over King’s on Tuesday.

With the win Oneonta improved to 4-11 while King’s slipped to 5-12.

After King’s James Wright picked up a forfeit at 125-pounds, Oneonta got a decision at 133 and a pair of major decisions at 141 and 149-pounds to take a 11-6 lead. After King’s Howard Kilpatrick picked up a forfeit at 157 to put the Monarchs ahead 12-11, Oneonta secured pins at 165 and 174 to take a 23-12 lead.

King’s cut the score to 23-15 after Edward Merrill earned a 11-6 decision at 184. But Oneonta shut the door with a pin at 197 to go ahead 29-15. At 285, King’s Ralph Bernardo registered a 9-3 decision to et the final score.

PSU’s Nolf earns Wrestler of the Week

Penn State’s Jason Nolf was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week.

The freshman from Yatesboro, who wrestlers at 157 pounds, notched two takedowns and recorded a pin at the 4:56 mark in the second period over No. 1 Isaiah Martinez of Illinois, ending Martinez’s 54-match unbeaten streak. The pin helped undefeated Penn State beat the Fighting Illini, 30-15.

Nolf extended his winning streak to 21-0 overall with 10 pins, six technical falls and three major decisions on the season

TENNIS

MU names new tennis coach

Jack Monick was named head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Misericordia University, Director of Athletics Chuck Edkins announced on Tuesday.

“I am pleased to welcome Jack to the Misericordia athletics department and tennis program,” Edkins said. “His decades of teaching and coaching experience will be an asset to our student-athletes.”

Prior to his retirement, Monick spent more than 20 years as the director of athletics at Penn State Wilkes-Barre where he served as head coach of multiple sports, including men’s and women’s tennis.
