A Wyoming Valley Conference baseball team hadn’t thrown a full-contest perfect game in the past decade. Coughlin came that close to doing it twice in the same week.

Just two days after Chase Nowak went eight innings without allowing a baserunner, teammate Jacob Lupas only had one reach against him in Wednesday’s 7-0 win at Tunkhannock.

Lupas faced the minimum 21 batters without allowing a walk for a one-hit shutout, striking out four. Nowak continued his big week by going 2 for 4 with three RBI for the Crusaders (3-5).

Freshman Nick Reposa had the lone hit for the Tigers (2-5).

Lake-Lehman 2,

Crestwood 1 (11 inn.)

Noah Gorski brought in the game-winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the top of the 11th inning. Lake-Lehman starter Garrett Weston allowed no earned runs in eight innings with no walks and four hits allowed.

Tyler Kolb picked up the win in a scoreless three innings of relief for the Black Knights (3-4).

James Graves went seven strong for the Comets (5-3), giving up just one hit and striking out three. Jim Albee had two hits.

Wyoming Valley West 9,

Wyoming Area 1

In a matchup of division leaders, the Spartans avenged their only WVC loss from a year ago and handed the Warriors their first loss in league play this time around.

Ryan Hogan (2 for 4) drove in four runs to take over the league lead in RBI. Tyler Yankosky went the distance for the win, striking out six as Valley West (7-1) moved two games ahead of Crestwood for first place in Division 1.

Cory Lescavage had two hits for the Warriors (6-1), who have a 2.5-game lead in Division 2. Tyler Dougherty and Aaron Lee (RBI) had back-to-back doubles in the seventh.

Holy Redeemer 2,

Northwest 0

The Royals (8-1) avenged their lone WVC loss this season as Sean Wills pitched a three-hit shutout on the road, striking out nine.

Tucker Ell (RBI) and Tom Borum had two hits apiece for Redeemer, which moved a half-game ahead of Meyers for first place in Division 3 and two ahead of Northwest (6-3).

Dave Piestrak also went the distance on the mound for the Rangers. Eric Evans doubled.

Dallas 10, Pittston Area 2

J.D. Barrett had a hit in all three at-bats and drove in three runs to help the Mountaineers (4-4) snap a four-game slide. Ryan Martin finished with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Sophomore Nick Kocher notched the win with a three-hit complete game in his first varsity start in WVC play, striking out six.

Kyle O’Fier doubled and two of the three hits for the Patriots (2-6).

Hazleton Area 4, Berwick 1

The Cougars (3-4) managed just two hits, but both went for extra bases to go with six walks as they scored all four in the first inning. Livan Reinoso tripled home two runs and picked up the save for sophomore Scott Shamany, who earned his first varsity win.

Alec Markle had two of the four hits by the Bulldogs (3-5) and also drove in a run.
