DALLAS TWP. — The Dallas lacrosse teams – boys and girls – celebrated Senior Night together on Friday.

Before and after those ceremonies, they put together impressive performances to continue winning seasons.

The girls finished off a doubleheader sweep of visiting Wyoming Area by putting together five goals in a span of 5:03 during the second half to pull away for a 13-6 Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 win.

The boys got it started with a 14-5 victory behind five goals and an assist by Cory Metz, one of their seven seniors.

Lauren Delamater led a balanced girls effort with four goals and an assist.

Katie Snedeker scored three goals while Katie Kapral was involved in four goals. Snedeker and Kapral are among the team’s eight senior starters.

“Our communication was good,” Dallas coach Kim Athanas said. “Making smart passes in transition, that certainly helped, and in playing good defense.”

Snedeker scored two goals in the first half and added her third with 17:16 remaining to start the game-deciding outburst that stretched a 7-4 advantage to 12-5.

Kapral’s pass from behind the net found Snedeker in front for the goal. Kapral had a goal and set up behind the net again to feed Sam Delamater for another score.

“They’re all team players,” Athanas said. “They look to feed, not just drive all the time.

“Katie’s a great assister.”

Just 20 seconds after Kapral’s last assist, Rachel Maniskas ran through the middle of the defense, avoided several Warriors and scored on a low shot for the 12-5 advantage with 12:13 left.

After a night of battling rain of varying intensity, the remainder of the game was played in a steady, hard shower.

“It made things slicker for the girls catching and throwing the ball because it was a lot wetter,” Athanas said, “but overall, it didn’t really seem it affected them.”

Caitlin Butchko finished with four goals for Wyoming Area, scoring all three for her team in the second half.

Dallas improved to 6-3, good for second place in Division 2 behind Lake-Lehman.

“Overall, I think the girls have progressed well this season,” Athanas said. “We have beaten all the teams in our (division) except for Lehman, so far.”

Wyoming Area, a second-year program, slipped to 1-7. Jake Urban led the Warriors with two goals and one assist.

The Dallas boys shared the WVC Division 1 lead a little over a week ago before dropping two straight.

They bounced back with the win over Wyoming Area in the inter-division game, which is part of the WVC standings.

Dallas improved to 4-2. Connor Motley, another senior, chipped in with three goals and two assists.

Wyoming Area, which is second in Division 2, dropped to 3-3.
