Local sports: Dallas advances to District 2 Class 2A Team Tennis semifinals

Dallas advanced to the District 2 Class 2A boys tennis semifinals with a 3-0 win over Holy Redeemer on Tuesday.

The Mountaineers will face Scranton Prep in the district semis Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Kirby Park.

Dallas swept both doubles in two sets en route to the victory. Anthony Brominski and Cameron Tuck prevailed 6-3, 6-1 in the first flight and Joe Bevevino and Adam Niznik scored a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Anthony Deluca earned the lone singles point for Dallas in the No. 3 slot.

Holy Redeemer’s Josh Wychock and Chris Kocon both led their matches prior to a halt.

Class 3A

Abington Heights 3, Delaware Valley 0

Abington Heights won its fourth-straight District 2-4 Class 3A championship.

Brandon Ostrowski earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 2 singles. Rishi Mulloth won No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0. The Comets’ duo of Spencer Gilbert and Jacob Linker posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the doubles’ top flight.

H.S. BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Crestwood 3, Lake-Lehman 0

The Comets won all three sets by similar 25-21 scores.

Leading Crestwood was Michael Williams with 33 assists and three aces. Kyle Sanders garnered 11 kills. Mendell Foreman joined him in double digits with 13 kills. Noah Modrovsky provided nine service points and two digs.

Wyoming Valley West 3,

Western Wayne 0

Wyoming Valley West prevailed in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-9.

Nick Klimchok helped the Spartans with 23 assists. Sam Nogin totaled 14 service points, two aces and eight digs. Adam McCue had two aces, four kills and four digs.

The Wildcats received four kills, four blocks and four digs from Tyler Atcavage.

H.S. GIRLS LACROSSE

Crestwood 11, Pittston Area 2

The Comets’ Hannah Ackers tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Natasha Koslop netted three goals and an assist. Paige Zalappa scored twice.

Defensively, Emily Supko had four ground balls. Julia Filchak allowed just two goals in goal.

Haley Norwillo and Nina Cirelli each scored for the Patriots.

H.S. BOYS LACROSSE

Crestwood 18, North Pocono 11

Crestwood closed its WVC schedule on the road. The Comets outscored the Trojans 9-3 in the second quarter.

Ryan Magin was responsible for half of the Comets’ scoring with nine goals and two assists. Zach Anderson netted four goals and two assists. Tanner Kahlau helped with four assists. Matt Tirpak also had a multi-goal game with two.

Quinn Roberts made 10 saves in net for the win. Liam Stone came in relief for two saves.

Delaware Valley 14,

Dallas 5

The Warriors outscored the Mountaineers 13-1 in the first half. DelVal received four goals and an assist from PJ Matarazzo. Nick Pampalone had five points on three goals and two assists. Rhett Padgett totaled two goals and an assist.

Cory Metz posted a hat trick for the Mountaineers. Connor Motley provided a goal and two assists. Corey McAndrew made 10 saves.

Singles – Josh Wychock (H) led Jack Robbins 6-1, 4-4 Halt; Chris Kocun (H) led Frank Bevevino 6-2, 3-2 Halt; Anthony Deluca (D) d. Russ Kudish 6-2, 6-0.

Doubles – Anthony Brominski/Cameron Tuck (D) d. Zach Patterson/Jack Patterson 6-3, 6-1; Joe Bevevino/Adam Niznik (D) d. Dominic Marchese/Mark Harrison 6-1, 6-1.
