Victoria Staciano gave up two hits and struck out 13 batters as Back Mountain defeated Pittston Area 6-0 to be crowned Section 5 9-10 Softball champions on Thursday at the Old Forge Little League field.

Allison Vitanovec finished with two hits and Ava Smith had an RBI in the win. Ava Hudak, Breanna Hunt and Amber Zimmerman each had a hit for Back Mountain.

Pittston Area’s Gianna Adams finished with 12 strikeouts, while Isabella Giardina and Ava Callahan each had a hit.

Back Mountain advances to the state tournament in Wellsboro on Tuesday.

10-11 BASEBALL

Back Mtn. National 8,

Carbondale 2

Bryan Osipower and Cole Kaiser each had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored in Back Mountain National’s win over Carbondale.

Gavin Adamski singled, doubled and scored a run. Mike Cumbo doubled and had two RBI and Gary Weaver had an RBI and a run scored. Nick Spencer picked up the win on the mound.

Carbondale was led by Branden Trichilo’s two hits and one run scored and Logon Warmoth’s single and RBI.

JUNIOR BASEBALL

Dunmore 16,

Back Mountain 6

Fred Lombardo and Zack Holthaus each had a two-run double for Back Mountain, which fell in the winners bracket final.

Jack Lukasavage added a single for Back Mountain’s other hit. Back Mountain will play Pittston Area at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Dallas High School in the elimination bracket final. The winner plays Dunmore at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dallas. If Dunmore loses that game, the team will meet again at 5 p.m. Saturday at Dallas.

Dan Walsh struck out seven, had two hits and scored three times to pace Dunmore. Joey Mandarano had three hits.
