Lindsey Oremus is ready for the upcoming Atlantic 10 Conference Cross Country Championships.

The St. Joseph’s sophomore, a Dallas High grad, prepped for the championships by finishing 28th out of 217 runners at the Princeton Invitational last Saturday in Princeton, N.J.

Her 6K time was 22:09.6, a season best and just shy of the 22:06.8 she posted when she finished 44th in the NCAA Division I Mid-Atlantic Regionals last season as a freshman.

“Lindsey ran a fantastic race at Princeton,” coach Melody O’Reilly said. “She went out strong with the front group and settled into a solid pace that carried her to a new regular-season 6k PR.”

The league meet is set for Oct.29 in Mechanicsville, Va. Oremus finished 22nd, second best on the Hawks, in last year’s title meet in a career-best 5K time of 18:03.9.

“Lindsey is growing more confident every week and I expect a strong A-10 performance from her,” O’Reilly said.

Give the ball to Stout

He also scored on 1-yard runs against King’s and Dickinson. On the other side of the ball, Stout has 13 tackles and a sack and has recovered a fumble which he returned eight yards but didn’t score.

The Wyoming Area grad scored her first goal of the season in a 3-2 victory over Fairfield on Oct. 2. She also has three assists and is a member of the defense that has limited foes to 22 goals with two shutouts.

Zapoticky a question mark

Shippensburg quarterback Ryan Zapoticky is list as day-to-day according to a school spokesman. The Dallas High grad was injured late in a 38-16 victory over Lock Haven on Oct. 1. The Raiders are 1-1 with him out of the lineup. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior has hit 96 of 146 passes for 1,159 yards and four touchdowns with five interceptions. Zapoticky had started 22 straight games in his career before his injury and led the Raiders to a 4-1 record to start this season.

Gonda, Gurtis hang tough

Junior Alex Gonda and sophomore Kady Gurtis, both Wyoming Valley West grads, are starting for the young Central Michigan field hockey team that’s suffering through a 1-14 season with a 0-8 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Gonda has a goal and two assists while Gurtis starts on defense. The Chippewas have just two seniors on the squad. Sophomore keeper Lily Amadio, a Dallas High grad, has played in nine games with seven starts and is 0-8.

The Dallas High grads teamed up early when Danny assisted Matt on the first goal of the game at the 5:13 mark. Cairn tied it and sent it into overtime where Danny ended the contest with a goal at the 103.30 mark. Danny leads the 7-8 Griffins with nine goals and an assist with three game-winners. Matt has three goals and two assists with a game winner.

DiMaggio knows the score

The Meyers grad scored four goals in a 5-2 victory over Delaware Valley. That ties the second-best effort in Monarch history and is the second most-scored goals in a game in Division III this season. DiMaggio leads the squad with 11 goals and three assists for 25 points to help King’s post a 9-5 overall record and a 3-1 mark in league play.
