Tre Fields had a double-double while leading five players in double figures as Misericordia’s men’s basketball team defeated St. Joseph’s (L.I.), 86-56, Thursday night.

Fields had game-highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Griffin Sponaugle added 14 points. Jason Kenny had 13 points and Tony Harding and Noah Rivera added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Cougars trailed 4-3 early, but went on a 17-0 run to take a 20-4 lead less than seven minutes into the game.

Sponaugle hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the run and ended it with a pair of free throws while Kenny added five points during the spurt.

MU stretched the lead to 38-11 with 3:41 left in the first half.

Fields scored three straight baskets for the Cougars, including a three-pointer, to key the run.

St. Joe’s cut the lead to 14 points midway through the second half, but Fields and Sponaugle combined for 11 straight points as the Cougars rebuilt their lead to 69-42 with 9:47 remaining.

Misericordia, 7-1, will host Valley Forge, Saturday afternoon.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Gwynedd-Mercy 65, King’s 54

Gwynedd-Mercy used a decisive fourth quarter, outscoring visiting King’s College 24-11 over the game’s final 10 minutes to secure the victory.

With the win the Griffins improved to 3-4, while King’s fell to 1-8.

King’s was paced by Rebecca Prociak with 16 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Hoffman followed with nine points, 10 rebounds, six blocked shots and five assists while Kayla Feairheller also added nine points with six boards. Kayla Dillinger tallied eight points with four assists while Shae Grim scored six points with three rebounds.

King’s shot 33.9 (20-59) percent from the field and 29.4 (5-17) from three-point range while committing 19 turnovers.

Charlotte Kucowski led the Griffins with 16 points and 14 rebounds while Nicole Dombrowski followed with 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Larissa Leyes chipped in with 11 points while hitting on a trio of three-pointers.

King’s will head into semester break and will not return to the court again until January 4 when the Lady Monarchs open their Freedom Conference schedule at Delaware Valley University.

NOTES: King’s women’s basketball game scheduled for Saturday at Penn State Wilkes-Barre had been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date to be announced.
