Jake Stephens pinned his opponent in 1:46, starting a run of five straight falls that opened the match and carried Tunkhannock to a 66-16 victory over Wyoming Valley West in a high school wrestling match Wednesday at Tunkhannock High School.

Stephens began the match with a fall in the 182-pound bout, and Tunkhannock’s Sam Rice followed with a pin at 195. John Walsh at 220, Jarrett Jervis at 285 and David Evans at 106 continued the spree of pins that gave the Tigers a 30-0 lead to start.

Gavin D’Amato at 126, Tommy Traver at 138, Kurtis Christ at 145 and Carl Anthony at 152 later added pins for the Tigers.

Wyoming Valley West received a pin from David Krokowski at 120 and a major decision by J.J. White at 113.

Dallas 51, Pittston Area 21

It took Alec Sampson just 20 seconds to record one of six pins for Dallas as the Mountaineers punished Pittston Area.

Sampson’s fall came in the 152-pound bout and bested a 32-second takedown by his Dallas teammate Kade Kravits for the match’s fastest pin.

Ben Yanchick at 120, Matt Maransky at 138, Moustafa Almeky at 182 and Shawn Henniger at 220 all picked up pins in the Dallas victory.

Pittston Area received big points from pins by Ryan Lombardo at 126 and John Martinez.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Tunkhannock 118,

Lake-Lehman 48

Megan Hayward, Anna Moffitt and Taylor Lynn all racked up a pair of individual wins Wednesday, to lead Tunkhannock to a 118-48 victory over Lake-Lehman at Dallas. Hayward finished first in both the 50 and 100 free, Moffitt took first in the 200 IM and 500 free while Lynn won the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle.

Lynn, Hayward and Moffitt also won the 200 meledy relay with Gwen Murray.

Jill O’Bren was Lake-Lehman’s lone individual winner. She finished first in the 100 backstoke, swimming in 1:13.41.

Dallas 138, Coughlin 45

Maddie Hurst and Annalise Cheshire were three-time winners as the Mountaineers took first-place finishes in 11 of the 12 events while cruising to victory.

Hurst captured the 200 and 500 freestyle races and teamed on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Cheshire won the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and anchored the winning 400 free relay team.

Hannah Redding won the 200 IM for Coughlin.

BOYS SWIMMING

Tunkhannock 132, Lake-Lehman 39

Davis Tidball was a four-time winner and Mitch Fowler and Dyllan Henning both won two individual events to fuel the Tigers.

Tidball took the 50 and 100-meter freestyle events, and swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Fowler captured the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly, while Henning finished first in the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke.

Henning also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Dallas puts on dominating display

Mikall Krochte was a part of two relay wins and captured the 100 breaststroke for the Mountaineers in an exhibition meet against Coughlin. Andrew Francis won the 100 freestyle and was also a part of two relay victories.

BOYS BOWLING

Hazleton Area 2786, Mifflin County 2408

Ryan Walker rolled a 227 high game and Tyler Herbinko finished with a 575 series, leading the Cougars to victory.

Brandon Updike finished with a 201 high game and 573 series for Hazleton Area, while Herbinko hit a 197 high game. Gavin Lehman finished with a 188 high game and a series of 543 series for the Cougars. Chipping in on the win were Christopher Nahay with a 195 high game and Kyle Pecora with a 175 high game.

GIRLS BOWLING

Hazleton Area 2428, Mifflin County 2047

Leading the Lady Cougars Jenna Rapach earned a 218 high game and a 573 series to pace the Cougars’ victory. Tabatha Kanuck finished with a 199 high game and a 535 series for Hazleton Area. Samantha Walsh added a 152 high game and a 449 series in the victory, while Savanna McCracken finished with a 155 high game.
