Matthew Grossmann led eight Colonel medalists capturing the 141-pound title at the event as the Wilkes wrestling team earned 132 points, good for second place.

The Colonels finished with one individual title, four runner-ups and three third-place finishers for a total of eight medalists. Messiah claimed their second-straight conference championships finishing with 166.5 team points including five of the ten individual winners.

Grossmann earned his first MAC title using two extra-point victories to reach the semifinals. Grossmann posted a 3-2 decision to beat Delaware Valley’s Tim Ambacher and claim the title.

Guesseppe Rea was one of four runner up finishers for Wilkes settling for second place at 125-pounds. Pankil Chander was the second runner up finisher for Wilkes taking home second place at 133-pounds. Chander fell in 6:30 to eventual champion Hunter Harris of Messiah. At 157, Wilkes saw two wrestlers medal with John Ritter taking home second while Nicholas Racanelli finished in third. Jacob Brook finished in second place at 184-pounds. He fell in 2:56 to top seed Derek Beitz of Messiah in the final.

King’s Wright, Kilpatrick place 3rd

King’s had six wrestlers place in the top six as the Monarchs finished fifth in the MAC Championships.

Individually for King’s, sophomore James Wright placed third at 133-pounds; junior Howard Kilpatrick finished third at 165; sophomore Eddie Merrill was fourth at 197; freshman Dakota Quick placed sixth at 125; junior Jake Daniel was sixth at 133; while sophomore Nick Price finished sixth at 184.

King’s earns 1st-ever victory

over Lycoming

The Monarchs defeated FDU-Florham 143-48 and earned their first-ever win against Lycoming with a 127-73 victory over the Warriors.

The men’s team won both relays as John Kwasizur, Randill De Asis, Christopher Dionne, and Dan Weekes finished first in the 200 yard medley with a time of 1:45.82 and Weekes, Bryce Groshardt, Josh Shoemaker, and Rhyce Hammaker swam a 1:30.34 in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Josh Shoemaker was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.80 and the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.75. Bryce Groshardt won the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:33.40 and the 100 freestyle with a season-best time of 48.69.

Chris Soutter won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:53.47 and Dan Weekes finished first in the 50 free with a time of 22.53. Aaron Griffith was victorious in the 500 free with a season-best time of 5:16.53.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

King’s Siwy breaks school record

Kirsten Siwy broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke as the Monarchs defeated FDU-Florham 137-43 and followed up last year’s first-ever win against Lycoming with a repeat 122-79 victory on Saturday.

The women won both relays as Megan Whitt, Siwy, Lauren Pham, and Mikayla Miller won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:59.80 and Brigid Wynn, Melina Good, Amanda Schwerdtman, and Nicole Mealey won the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:51.26.

Siwy won both of her individual events finishing the 400 IM in 4:53.56 and then breaking the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.48. Schwerdtman also won both of her events by sweeping the two distance events. She won the 1000 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 11:33.77 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:39.69.

Wilkes strong in program debut

Wilkes opened competition for the first time winning a pair of matches against Bard and Lehman College at a tri-match hosted by Bard.

The Colonels blanked host Bard 3-0 before posting a 3-1 victory over Lehman in its second match of the event.

Wilkes took the match with Bard in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-17 and 25-20. John Pietrzyk led Wilkes on the attack with 11 kills and five digs. Thomas Bogarowski followed with 10 kills and six digs. Daniel Sales led the passing game with 26 assists on 34 team kills while Dylan Smith anchored the Wilkes backline with 10 digs.

MU’s Petties-Jackson stars in invy

Juwan Petties-Jackson won the 60m (6.99) to lead Misericordia at the Orange & Maroon Invitational.

Greg Shultz was second in the pole vault (4.25m) and Tobi Olugbenga was fourth in the triple jump (13.58m). Sean Luzzi finished fourth in the mile (4:30.75) and Mike Harth placed seventh at 200m (23.45).

Harth, Michael Dube, Tyler Lamberson and Petties-Jackson were third in the 4×200 (1:34.47).

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Misericordia’s Wagner dominates

Misericordia University’s Reilly Wagner had three top-two finishes at the Orange & Maroon Invitational.

Wagner won the high jump (1.67m) and finished second in the 60m hurdles (9.42). She was also second overall in the 400m (1:02.3) while teammate Kelty Fairchild was third (1:02.41). MU grad Amy Viti won the event while competing unattached.

Oniesha Clarke won the long jump (5.36m) and teamed with Kate Fairchild, Melanie Fry and Kelty Fairchild to win the 4x200m relay (1:50.73).
