The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Carter Rowney from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Monday afternoon. The move was announced by executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford.
Rowney, 27, was recalled to the NHL for the first time on Thursday, but did not dress in Pittsburgh’s final game before the All-Star break.
Signed to his first NHL contract last spring, Rowney has 21 points (10G-11A) and a plus-6 in 26 AHL games with WBS this year. Before he was called up last week, he had earned at least one point in six consecutive games, tallying eight points (5G-3A) during that span.
The 6-foot-2, 208-pound forward had a standout year with WBS last season, establishing career highs with 24 goals, 32 assists, 56 points and a plus-23. Rowney skated in 10 postseason games, recording four goals and 12 points for the Penguins.
