Tara Kupsky broke a pool record in the 500 freestyle and was a part of three winning relay teams as Wyoming Seminary downed Hanover Area, 76-17, to complete the school’s first unbeaten girls swimming season in at least 50 years.

Kupsky finished the 500 free in 5:12.06 to win her only individual event of the meet, and anchored the winning 200 free relay team in between swimming second on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

April Kupsky, Kylee Kolbicka, Ava Baur and Haley Thier were all double winners.

The victory sent the Blue Knights to a 12-0 finish to top Dallas, which entered Tuesday at 10-1, for the Wyoming Valley Conference title.

Holy Redeemer 131,

Wyoming Area 47

Emily Blaum was a four-time winner and Emily Easton, Margaret Waiting and McKenna Zeller won in three events as the Royals improved to 10-2 in the WVC.

Blaum captured the 50 and 100 sprint races, anchored the winning 200 medley relay team and led off for the winning 400 freestyle relay team.

Easton captured the 100 butterfly and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams. Waiting won the 100 breaststroke ande Zeller placed first in the 100 backstroke. Both were part of the 200 and 400 free relay teams that placed first.

Berwick 119,

Meyers 42

Becca Decker, Kylie Levan and Sydney Lloyd all won four events as the Bulldogs stormed to victory.

Decker won the 100 and 200 freestyle races, Levan captured the 50 free and 100 backstroke and Lloyd was first to the finish in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. All three also swam on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams.

BOYS SWIMMING

Wyoming Seminary 71,

Hanover Area 20

Matt Bean broke a 31-year-old pool and school record in the 100 backstroke and was a four-time winner as the Blue Knights finished WVC action undefeated for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

Bean finished the backstroke in 54.09 in the 100 backstroke, besting the previous mark set by Tim Adams of the former Bishop Hoban High School in 1986.

Bean also won the 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 medley 400 freestyle relay teams.

Marcos Rico was a three-time winner for Sem, placing first in the 100 butterfly and competing on the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

The win lifted the Blue Knights to 9-0 while clinching the WVC title over Wyoming Valley West, which entered Tuesday with a 7-1 league record.

Adam Mahler set a new school record in the 500 freestyle and Nick Dubinski was a four-time winner as the Royals cruised to victory.

Colton Smith was a three-time winner in the victory.

Mahler swam a 4:55 in the 500 and also captured the 100 breaststroke.

Dubinski won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Smith took the 200 IM and 100 freestyle and led off the winning 400 freestyle relay.

Berwick swims to strong showing

Chris Michael captured the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Dyllan Weaver won the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke as the Bulldogs dominated an exhibition meet against Meyers.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nanticoke Area 79,

Tunkhannock 27

Kayla Aufiero and Riley Klepadlo combined for 33 points as the Trojanettes moved to 14-1 and back into a first-place tie with Holy Redeemer at the top of the WVC Division 2 entering Wednesday’s regular season finale.

Klepadlo scored nine of her 15 points in the opening quarter as Nanticoke Area shot to a 19-8 lead and never looked back.

Aufiero scored 15 of her game-high 18 points in the third quarter as the Trojanettes extended their lead to 65-27.

Lisa Radziak finished with 11 points in the victory and Nanticoke Area’s defense held Tunkhannock scoreless in the final quarter.

Abby Ritz led the Tigers with 10 points.

WRESTLING

Dallas 42, Lake-Lehman 32

Alec Sampson began a run of five consecutive pins as the Mountaineers opened a 30-point lead, then hung on for victory against the rival Black Knights in a match held Monday.

Sampson’s fall came 41 seconds into the meet in the 160-pound bout, and a wave of Mountaineers followed his lead. Steven Newell at 170, Xavier Barber at 182, Moustafa Almeky at 195 and Shawn Henniger at 220 recorded pins for Dallas before Lehman’s Kaleb Konigus carved out a 3-1 decision.

Robert Long at 120, Robert Lipski at 145 and Jake Tomolonis at 152 came up with pins for Lehman to make the match close.
