Tunkhannock grad Mike Papi has been off to a fast start for Double-A Akron this spring.

Batting .368 with a pair of runs scored and 4 RBI in seven games heading into the weekend, Papi got the RubberDucks off to a 2-6 start. He had a pair of multi-hit games Monday and Tuesday, going 2 for 4 with a run and a pair of RBI on Tuesday’s loss.

This will be Papi’s first full season in Double-A. He started his 2016 campaign in High-A before playing 78 games with Akron down the stretch.

Papi went .231 with 15 home runs and 58 RBI in 118 minor league games last season.

Matt Wotherspoon

The Crestwood product started the season with Double-A Trenton after spending spring training with the RailRiders.

Wothserspoon’s appeared in two games this season and has registered a 4.15 ERA on four hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.

In his last appearance on Thursday, Wotherspoon went 2.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits and a walk. He also struck out a pair of batters.

Wotherspoon took the loss against Erie on April 9.

Tony Hernandez

The Hazleton grad was selected in the 15th round by the New York Yankees in this past summer’s MLB draft.

Hernandez pitched in 11 games, making six starts, and went 33.0 innings for the Gulf Coast League Yankees West. In his 11 games, the 6-foot-2 lefty registered a 5.73 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

The 20-year-old has not pitched for a Yankees affiliate yet this season.
