Zach Paczewski pitched three innings and gave up one hit as Back Mountain National defeated Kingston/Forty Fort in four innings for the District 31 9-11 championship on Sunday.

In the District 16 championship, Mountain Top outlasted Hanover 8-7, jumping out to an 8-0 lead before holding off the rally to win the crown.

Back Mountain scored 10 runs in the first inning. Mike Cumbo was 4 for 4 with two home runs, Paczewski went 4 for 4 with one home run, Jude Nocito was 2 for 3 and Sam Barrouk went 2 for 4. Allan Lisman, Lucas Tirpak, Kaden Coyne, Brad Kugler and Nathan Hinsdale each finished with a hit.

Back Mountain National advances to the sectional playoffs on Thursday at a site and time to be determined.

Locals keep winning

Swoyersville and Greater Pittston both reached the winner’s bracket final with victories on Sunday. They will meet at 4 p.m. Monday for a spot in the final round of the double-elimination tournament.

Greater Pittston opened things up by winning its semifinal 9-6 over Dickson City.

Swoyersville beat Montoursville 12-1 in seven innings as Eric Raitter, Zach Kobusky and Draig Ruff combined on a four-hitter.

Ruff, Zach Sott, Jake Packer and Austin Sienkiewicz all had two hits apiece with Packer driving in four runs.

Elsewhere in the bracket, Shamokin/Mount Carmel eliminated Montrose 10-0 in seven innings.
