Mountain Top stayed alive for the Section 5 9-11 Baseball championship Saturday by defeating North Scranton 10-9 in the elimination bracket finals at North Scranton Little League.

Mountain Top will play undefeated Back Mountain National at 1 p.m. Sunday. If Mountain Top wins, the teams will play again at 5:30 p.m. Monday. All games are at North Scranton Little League.

Ben Keil was 2 for 2 for Mountain Top and closed out the game on the mound. Ryan Steincavage was also 2 for 2. Brayden Wanchisen was 2 for 4.

Brian Kellogg paced North Scranton, going 3 for 3 with two home runs.

JUNIOR BASEBALL

Abington 0

Winning pitcher Connor Morgan helped his own cause with two hits, including a double, and three RBI as Back Mountain won the winners bracket final in five innings.

Back Mountain can win the championship on Sunday when it plays the elimination bracket finalist. Game time is 1 p.m. at Battaglia Field in West Scranton.

Luke Spencer also pitched and gave up two hits while striking out seven. He also added a hit and an RBI.

A.J. Bednar had two hits and two RBI. Xander Shaner had an RBI single while Max Paczewski, Ty Federici, Mick Finarelli and Nick Nocito all had a hit.

Gabe Pietryka and Luciano Medico each had a hit for Abington.

9-10 CHAMPIONSHIP

Back Mountain National 19

Carter Brunn’s RBI single in the top of the eigth gave Back Mountain National the lead for good in the Section 5 9-10 championship baseball game on Saturday.

Back Mountain National trailed 10-3 going into the fifth inning and scored six runs to pull within one, 10-9. The inning was highlighted by RBI doubles by Brady Zapoticky (2 for 4), Dylan Gesky and Jack Leandri, who was also the winning pitcher.

Back Mountain National tied the game at 10-10 on a Zach Williams (2 for 5) bases-loaded walk. Kyle Chesman was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, Sam Finarelli was 3 for 5 with three RBI and three runs scored in the win.

Back Mountain National heads to Morrisville for the state tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

SECTION 5 SOFTBALL

9-11 CHAMPIONSHIP

Pittston Area 15,

Greater Wyo. Area 4

Winning pitcher Katie Wywoda struck out seven and allowed one hit as Pittston Area clinched the title with a four-inning win.

Wywoda also had a hit. Maura Mihalka tripled and singled twice as Pittston Area moved to the state tournament at Fairchance Little League starting on Friday. Olivia Walter and Natalia Soto each had two hits.

Christine Vogel had the only hit for GWA.
