The Stanley Cooper Sr. Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold an Adult Fly Fishing Camp for ages 18 and up on Sunday, June 7 at the American Legion in Mountain Top. The program includes entomology, fly tying, casting, knot tying and an opportunity to fish. All equipment will be furnished and lunch will be provided. The Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club Youth Shooting Team will host a sporting clay’s shoot today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds will offset the cost of shells and registration fees for the upcoming state shoot on June 20 at the Blue Ridge Sportsmen’s Club. The FSC Clay Busters started out seven years ago with four youth shooters and has grown to 25 kids covering five counties.

The cost of the shoot will be $30 for 100 birds or $15 for 50 birds. Five stand will also be open with a cost of $5 for 25 birds. The kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch along with a bake sale. If you are unable to attend but prefer to send a donation, they can be made out to Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club and sent to Factoryville Sportsmen’s Club, c/o John Hegedty, 640 Stony Mt Rd, Tunkhannock 18657. DCNR Bureau of Forestry and North Pocono CARE will hold a program on native plant habitats on Monday, June 8 at 6 p.m. at DCNR’s Lehigh Track along Old River Road in Thornhurst. The Lehigh Track is located one mile north of the Thornhurst Township Building, between mailboxes 576 and 585.

The program, called “Following Nature’s Cues: Saving and Restoring Successful Native Plant Habitat” will identify native and invasive plants and natural plant communities that grow along rivers, lakes and streams with botanist Claudia Steckel. The presentation is open to the public and is free. Refreshments will be provided. If it rains, the program will be held at the Thornhurst Township Building on 356 Old River Rd. The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will hold a Basic Boating Course on June 8 and 10 at Beltzville State Park. The course will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. each night. There’s no charge for the course. All participants must pre-register and must attend both sessions. Call Beltzville State Park at 610-377-0045 to register. The Basic Boating Course is designed to supply boaters with practical information so they can make better informed decisions on the water. Instructors will provide students with information via a classroom setting to help them reduce the risk of injury and conflict on the water. Students who successfully complete the course may apply for a Boating Safety Education Certificate for a $10 fee. The certificate is required of all operators of personal watercraft (PWCs) or anyone born on or after January 1, 1982 who operate a motorboat of more than 25 horsepower.
