Matt Wotherspoon has appeared twice this week for Double-A Trenton, pitching five innings and racking up his third save of the season.

The Crestwood grad has been impressive as of late.

While he did allow a run on three hits in Monday’s relief appearance, he picked up the save. Wotherspoon also struck out four in the 2.2 innings pitched.

Wotherspoon relieved Trenton starter Josh Rogers in the sixth inning Friday, only to allow one hot while striking out five to record the hold. He lasted 2.1 innings in the win.

The 25-year-old’s 29 strikeouts is good for fifth-best on Trenton and tops for relievers.

Mike Papi

The Tunkhannock grad recorded three hits in Double-Akron’s 10-0 win Friday.

Friday was Papi’s second straight multi-hit game. He was 3 for 5 with a double on Friday and went 2 for 4 with an RBI Wednesday.

Papi’s .295 batting average ranks second on his team for players with at least 16 at-bats. His 41 hits paces the RubberDucks, however.

The Hazleton product continues to participate in extended spring training with the New York Yankees.
