MOOSIC — The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ vision for Sept. 19’s Triple-A National Championship Game at PNC Field came into focus a bit on Thursday.

The team announced details regarding a fan fest, celebrity appearances and a few other events for Sept. 19. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is partnering with the cancer research organization Stand Up To Cancer for the event.

The game, which features the International League and Pacific Coast League champions, will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.

“The SWB RailRiders are extremely excited to host the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game and for our loyal fans to enjoy a night at PNC Field that they will truly remember,” RailRiders president/COO Josh Olerud said, via a press release. “From the fan fest, live music, sky divers, in-stadium zip line and postgame fireworks, it is truly going to be an event that NEPA has never seen before!”

The day will start with the Dunkin’ Donuts Fan Fest, a pregame event that will host a “Dunkin’ mobile coffee lab” and free samples, live music, food trucks and a kids’ zone. The fan fest will last from 4-7 p.m.

Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson and two-time National League All-Star Andy Ashby will both be in attendance. They are the game’s ambassadors.

RailRiders co-managing owner David Abrams has said previously that former Major Leaguer Bucky Dent and members of the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils and New York City Football Club will be in attendance.

“It’s more than just a game,” Abrams said on a conference call earlier this month. “It’s great to win the championship, but this game is all about inspiring people. We want people to come out and be a part of what we believe will be the most exciting event that northeast Pennsylvania’s ever seen.

“These people are going to be doing more than showing up at the game and sitting in a box somewhere by themselves. They’re going to be out in the community. They’re going to be helping inspire people.”

The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a rally towel. Prior to the game the Fastrax skydiving team will put on a performance for fans. There will also be a championship celebration and trophy presentation, followed by fireworks.

Mohegan Sun Pocono will be the official headquarters for the event, hosting the participating MiLB teams and executives.
