The Wilkes-Barre Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) recently hosted the 19th annual meeting of the Community Homelessness Assessment, Local Education and Networking Groups (CHALENG). David Warke, homeless grant and per diem coordinator at VAMC, organized this year's meeting and was the master of ceremonies. Welcoming remarks were given by William Mericle, chief of social work, WAMC. Community partners and VAMC staff presented updates regarding veteran-focused programs. Lynn Moonen discussed her personal experience of struggling with homelessness. Her speech highlighted the need for partnership between programs and agencies to reach the complex needs an individual faces while challenging homelessness.
