FIRST QUARTER

PSU -- Allen Robinson 41-yard pass from Matt McGloin (Sam Ficken kick), 0:06. Drive: 4 plays, 46 yards, 1:35. Comment: A choppy first quarter ended with a bang. Reserve cornerback Jesse Della Valle comes up with a 29-yard punt return -- Penn State's best of the season -- but the Nittany Lions offense stalls in Temple territory for the third straight drive. But Bill O'Brien elects to go for it on fourth-and-5 from the Owls 41, and the gamble pays off. Under pressure, McGloin drops a pass just over the head of a Temple defender to Robinson, who spins out of a backpedal and catches the safety flat-footed to race untouched to the end zone. It's McGloin's ninth touchdown pass of the season, with five going to Robinson. Penn State has outscored opponents 35-0 in the fourth quarter through four games. PENN STATE 7, TEMPLE 0.

SECOND QUARTER

TU -- Brandon McManus 33-yard field goal, 10:29. Drive: 11 plays, 52 yards, 4:35. Comment: Both teams miss opportunities on Temple's ensuing drive after the touchdown. Michael Mauti punches the ball loose from Owls quarterback Chris Coyer at the sideline, but fellow linebacker Glenn Carson loses the potential recovery, as Coyer is able to grab it back. After a pass interference call on true freshman Da'Quan Davis, Coyer has his tight end wide open in the end zone. But the throw against the grain back across the field sails over his head. Mike Hull comes up with a 9-yard sack on third down to force the kick. PSU 7, TU 3.
PSU -- McGloin 1-yard run (Ficken kick), 0:22. Drive: 3 plays, 35 yards, 0:48. Comment: Yes, it's Penn State's first rushing touchdown of the season, coming at the end of 14 quarters of play. And yes, it's McGloin. What could have been a frustrating first half ends with a spark as the Lions use all three timeouts to get the ball back with just over a minute to play. McGloin wastes no time in the hurry-up offense, hitting tight end Kyle Carter twice to reach the Temple 1. On first-and-goal, O'Brien calls a quarterback draw out of the shotgun. After waiting a few patient seconds, McGloin takes off and meets resistance at the goal line before fighting through the tackle for the score. It's McGloin's third career rushing touchdown and the first since the Outback Bowl at the end of the 2010 season. PSU 14, TU 3.

THIRD QUARTER

PSU -- McGloin 2-yard run (Ficken kick), 4:57. Drive: 11 plays, 80 yards, 4:36. Comment: The Lions put together their best drive of the afternoon, mixing things up with the run and pass -- and finally get out of their own way by not committing a penalty. Sophomore Zach Zwinak gets the most extensive time of his young career, picking up 37 yards on six carries. McGloin converts a pair of third downs and then gets the call himself on second-and-goal from the 2, surging behind Matt Stankiewitch for his second rushing score of the day. That doubles his career total coming into the day and gives the Lions full control of this one. PSU 21, TU 3.

TU -- McManus 42-yard field goal, 1:37. Drive: 9 plays, 45 yards, 3:20. Comment: Sam Ficken can't catch a break this season. Struggling on field goals, the sophomore kicker charges down the field on the ensuing kickoff and comes up to make a tackle on Owls return man Matt Brown. Trouble is, he was already out of bounds. And that's how a kicker ends up with a personal foul flag against him. That set the Owls up at their own 45, with Coyer scrambling up the middle for a gain of 20. That gave Temple a rare red zone appearance for one snap, as a holding call pushes the offense back. Coyer misses his man on a deep post and it's field goal time again. PSU 21, TU 6.

FOURTH QUARTER

PSU -- Sam Ficken 21-yard field goal, 2:29. Drive: 11 plays, 68 yards, 7:03. Comment: For once, fans cheered when the field goal unit came out on fourth down. After Garry Gilliam couldn't hang on to a potential touchdown pass from McGloin, the embattled kicker attempted his first field goal since missing four against Virginia two weeks ago. It wasn't much more than an extra point, but Ficken will take it, flashing a big grin after sending it through the uprights. PSU 24, TU 6.TU -- Matt Brown 1-yard pass from Chris Coyer (McManus kick), 1:33. Drive: 4 plays, 65 yards, 0:56. Comment: Not much to see here. The Lions sub out their starting front seven with only some cameos from first-teamers in the secondary. A pass to Brown out of the backfield gets the Owls into the end zone for the first time, but Penn State recovers the onside kick to run out the clock. PSU 24, TU 13.
