PITTSTON TWP. -- The planned visit to Northeastern Pennsylvania Thursday by Vice President Joe Biden has been cancelled, according to the campaign and an official at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.
Due to local preparation and response efforts, the Vice Presidentâ??s events tomorrow, Oct. 30, in Wooster and Gambier, Ohio and the event in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Thursday, Nov. 1 are cancelled. This change in schedule is being taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure that all local law enforcement and emergency management resources can stay focused on ensuring the safety of people who might be impacted by the storm, according to a statement issued by the Obama/Biden campaign.
George Bieber, head of security at the local airport, said Biden's flight was supposed to land Wednesday night, he was to have a campaign appearance Thursday and his flight was to leave Thursday afternoon.
The airport was notified earlier this afternoon that those plans have changed and Biden, a Scranton native, would no longer be visiting.
The Obama/Biden campaign never released details of Biden's visit and from the get-go noted the visit hinged on various things, including weather.
Bieber said as of today, no other candidates for president or vice president are scheduled to fly into the local airport before the election.
