Two Wyoming Valley Conference field hockey players were among those honored Tuesday as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association named its regional All-Americans.
Chandler Ackers of Crestwood and Morgan Malone of Wyoming Seminary were both included on the Pennsylvania Region first team.
Ackers was a senior defender for the Comets, the PIAA Class 2A state champions. She was fourth on her team with 30 points this season, netting nine goals and 12 assists. She had three goals and four assists in eight playoff games.
The Comets' co-captain was a force in the second half of the season, posting eight goals and seven assists. Meanwhile, her efforts on the back line aided in the Comets allowing a league-best 0.60 goals per game.
Malone was a junior forward for the Blue Knights, who went to the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals this season – their third consecutive trip to the state playoffs. She was second on the Seminary squad with 34 points, leading the team with 14 goals. Malone also had six assists.
The forward had an early stretch in which she had five goals and three assists in a three-game span, and she had a four-game scoring streak late in the season, including two district playoff games.
The NFHCA All-American teams will be announced Dec. 10.
