WILKES-BARRE TWP. - A man was arraigned Thursday on evidence of drunken driving when he crashed a vehicle into a restaurant, injuring four customers, last month.

Alrick Taylor, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged by city police with aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, accidents involving injury, driving under the influence, trespass by vehicle, driving without a license, and three traffic citations. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.

City police allege Taylor, operating a Ford Escape, crossed Kidder Street and crashed into Denny's Restaurant on Jan. 14, according to the criminal complaint.

A passing police officer witnessed the crash.

Taylor told police he was not the driver. Police allege in the complaint Taylor showed signs of intoxication.

Police said Taylor passed out in a chair at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, and refused to submit to a blood test when he woke up, the complaint says.

Police said four customers in the restaurant were injured, including two people who suffered broken bones and cracked ribs.

The Ford Escape was rented by a woman at a Kingston car rental business, police said.
