SCRANTON – A former part-time paramedic has sued Trans-Med Ambulance Inc., based in Forty Fort, alleging age discrimination.
Attorney Kimberly Borland filed the suit Wednesday on behalf of Michael Cassic in U.S. Middle District court. According to the suit, Cassic was born in 1957 and started working for Trans-Med in 2002.
In 2010 the company started reducing his shifts and paying him Emergency Medical Technician rates rather than paramedic rates when working EMT shifts, and ultimately terminated him in 2011.
Cassic contends the actions were the result of age discrimination because younger employees were treated differently.
The suit seeks lost wages and benefits Cassic would have accrued if shifts and salary hadn't been cut, and attorney fees. No specific amount is mentioned.
