FAIRVIEW TWP. – Township full-time police officers will contribute 5 percent of their salaries to the pension fund for the 2013 fiscal year, according to a resolution Monday night.

Full-time officers made no fund contributions in 2012.

Chairman Supervisor Robert Orloski said state contributions change each year. This year they came up short.

He said the officers' contracts allow for the township to reroute pay to the pension fund, anywhere from 5 to 8 percent.

We agreed to the absolute minimum, Orloski said.

Township Secretary Barbara Wasiakowski said until now, the pension fund has been over-funded, with many young officers on the force and no one retiring.

Two officers recently took early retirement for health reasons. In an effort to keep taxes down but also meet growing expenses, including rising pension fund costs, they will start pulling from salaries.

In other news:

• Supervisor Russell Marhold said township salt bins are near capacity and ready for winter. He asked that residents be mindful of the weather and pull portable basketball hoops from the roads to make way for plow trucks.

Orloski implored that residents heed posted no-parking signs and referenced parking violations on Gracedale Avenue near Cavanaugh's Grille.

When there's parking on both sides of the street, it's hard enough for regular traffic to get through, let alone emergency vehicles, Orloski said. He spoke of property damage and said persisting violations will be met with penalties.

• After 27 years, Recording Secretary Diane Hollock kept minutes for her final meeting. Hollock submitted her resignation at last month's meeting. The supervisors presented her with a plaque commemorating her time with them.

We certainly appreciated working with you, Orloski said. It's been interesting.
