TUNKHANNOCK – Being defeated two times previously by an opponent can be discouraging for a wrestler heading into the third meeting.

Added pressure was on the shoulders of Lake-Lehman's John Tomasura on Wednesday because he needed to get a victory to help his team stay unbeaten in Division II of the Wyoming Valley Conference. But the sophomore put the nerves behind him, went out and pinned Tunkhannock's Jake Richards in 5:02 to give the Black Knights a thrilling 36-32 victory after overcoming a 20-point deficit midway through the dual.

It's just amazing and such a good feeling that I won it for the team, Tomasura said.

Richards, a freshman, had beaten Tomasura by one point both times when the two met at the Tunkhannock Kiwanis Tournament last month. During Wednesday's 113-pound nail-biter, it looked good early on for Richards as he got the early takedown and was leading 3-2 after the first period.

Tomasura scored a quick escape to start the second period and ended the second by grabbing two points for a takedown to hold a 5-3 lead entering the last stanza. Richards' choice to start the third was the bottom position and after nearly getting a reversal two times, Tomasura turned that around and got in position to get the fall.

He was pretty calm, Lehman coach Tom Williams said about the pressure situation Tomasura was in. We've had some big matches and he's been a part of what we've been doing the last two years so I was confident in him.

The Tigers (3-1 Division II, 9-6 overall), who need Lehman to falter in one of its last three duals to stay in contention for the division title, jumped out to a 15-0 lead after three matches and were ahead 26-6 after seven weights, winning all four of the contested bouts. Mike Manley (132 pounds), Dalton Ray (145) and Chris Packer (152) all won via decision and Ben Siegel (160) garnered a technical fall to account for the big lead.

But there was no giving up for Lehman (3-0 D-II, 14-3), which now needs wins over Wyoming Area, Hanover Area and Nanticoke to claim its second straight division title. The team reeled off five straight wins highlighted by falls from Bobby Wright at 170 and Brady Butler at 195.

It was a hard one to swallow especially since Richards has beaten Tomasura twice already this year, Tunkhannock coach Bob Hegedty said. We felt confident going into the last match, but it just didn't work out this time. But he went at him and that's all we ask for the kids is they go out and wrestle hard.

Butler's win may have been the most important. The junior, who was runner-up the WVC Tournament earlier this month, defeated a WVC champion for the second time in as many duals when he got Andrew Muckin on his back in 2:48. The victory followed a win over Dallas' Connor Martinez on Monday.

I was hurt in the conference tournament and then sick so I've been working back and it feels pretty good, said Butler. I wrestled (Muckin) before and I knew I could beat him, but I wasn't expecting a pin, especially that fast.

Phil Hettes and Dustin Jones picked up big wins via decision at 220 and 285, respectively, for the Black Knights for a 30-26 advantage with just two bouts left. Tunkhannock's Elliott Hammersly notched a pin at 106 as the Tigers regained the lead at 32-30 heading into the final match of the night.

Notes: There has been a time change for Friday's dual pitting Wyoming Area at Lake-Lehman. Due to the possible inclement weather, the junior high match with begin at 3 p.m. and the varsity match will start at 4:30. The Black Knights' Hall of Fame ceremony will still take place as scheduled.
