DALLAS – Jess Hiscox has made plenty of big shots for Dallas in her basketball career.

But the senior has never made so many of them in one night.

With Crestwood defenders yelling shooter before she even crossed the midcourt stripe, Hiscox topped her career high less than 12 minutes in against the Comets, powering Dallas to an 80-47 victory in a matchup of the two top teams in Division I of the Wyoming Valley Conference on Thursday night.

We knew we were tied for first place, so we came out really pumped, Hiscox said of her team's strong start and stronger finish. We came out hitting our shots. We expected it to be a tough game, so we knew we had to play a full game.

Hiscox scored 18 of her 21 points in the first half, sparking the Mountaineers on a 19-4 run after the Comets had tied the game at 15. She made four three-pointers, two from each wing, drove to the basket and led the break for Dallas.

There are times where maybe I can keep count, but I wasn't exactly sure (tonight), Hiscox said of going to the locker room at halftime with a new career best. I was just focused on helping the team out. Everyone was playing so well tonight.

Her previous career high was 14 points in a 62-53 overtime win against Pittston Area on Feb. 2, 2012.

When Hiscox hit those four three-pointers in the first half, that broke us down, Comets coach Isiah Walker said. Jess' four threes really killed us.

She had the game of her life tonight, Dallas coach Kelly Johnson said.

The Mountaineers (7-1 WVC, 11-2) shot well from the field, including 50 percent from three-point range (7 of 14), led by Hiscox's five threes. They were also balanced.

Ashley Dunbar led Dallas with 22 points and seven assists, including three consecutive baskets in an 11-0 run in the third quarter. Talia Szatkowski had seven consecutive points in the middle quarters in a 13-point, seven-rebound, seven-assist effort.

Tanner Englehart had six of her nine points in the fourth quarter, finishing with a game-high 19 rebounds.

I am so excited for these kids, Johnson said. We're in the gym with them everyday at practice. We know what they are capable of. They put a whole game together, not just a good first half or a good second half.

Crestwood (6-2, 10-5) was outscored 56-28 over the final 19 minutes Thursday. The Comets allowed fewer points to Dallas when the teams met Jan. 2 (a 53-50 Dallas win).

Our communication was down, Walker said. We missed a few assignments. Nothing we can't correct.

While Dallas was clicking offensively, Crestwood was cold from the floor, missing layups and stickbacks that normally fall. The Comets, a dangerous three-point team making about five per game, were 1-for-13 from behind the arc and a disappointing 25 percent from the free-throw line.

Forwards Rebecca Rutkowski (23 points, 16 rebounds, 9 blocks) and Sydney Myers (11 points, 10 rebounds) were the only two Comets to score Thursday until guard Maury Cronauer (10 points) made a jumper from the right corner with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter.

Last time we played them, we focused on doubling down on the inside, Johnson said. They made (nine) three-pointers. So this time we tried to take their outside shooting away.
