Hyundai Motor labor union resume strike

(AP) Hyundai Motor Co. said its labor union has resumed a walkout after workers and management failed to reach an agreement while negotiating wages and labor conditions.

South Korea's largest carmaker said Wednesday that its unionized workers went on a two-hour strike earlier in the day demanding to salary increases and to end night shifts.

Hyundai's union said workers will halt work for several hours for six days between Aug. 8 and Aug. 17. They will refuse to work overtime during the period. The union said workers at Kia Motors Corp. will join the strike Friday.

Workers at Hyundai and Kia staged their first walkout in at least three years last month. Company representatives said the July strikes reduced output by 14,080 vehicles worth 269.4 billion won ($239 million).
