ASHLEY: Centenary United Methodist Church, 24 North Main St., is conducting an Advent workshop from 4-6 p.m. on Dec. 1.
The event is open to the community free of charge.
Participants will have the opportunity to make wreaths and Christmas ornaments. Children can also make ornaments. Refreshments will be provided.

LUZERNE COUNTY: The St. Padre Pio Prayer Group will gather for its monthly meeting Sunday, the Feast of Christ the King, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 416 Church St., Honesdale.
Services begin at 2 p.m. with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. The Rev. William J. P. Langan, host pastor and spiritual director, will lead the faithful in the prayer for all priests.
The rosary will be offered with group members leading each decade.
A reading from sacred scripture by Sister Elizabeth Brody will be followed by a spiritual reflection by Rev. Langan.
Book of special intentions invoking the intercession of St. Pio will be presented and special prayers will be offered for expectant mothers, the sick, those suffering from any kind of addiction, those seeking employment, and for all the youth.
The sacrament of the anointing of the sick will be administered to those seriously ill or about to undergo surgery. At 3 p.m., the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be chanted followed by Liturgy of the Hours (vespers), benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and close with the individual blessing with the relic of St. Pio. All faithful are invited.
There will be no service in December.
LUZERNE COUNTY: An Advent Service of Word and Song, Wise Men Still Seek Him, will be presented on Dec. 2 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore, and at Holy Family Parish Church, Bennett Street, Luzerne, on Dec. 9. The service will begin at 7 p.m.
The Combined Choirs of Holy Family Parish in Luzerne and the Dunmore parishes of SS. Anthony & Rocco and Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be featured during the liturgy.
The combined group of more than 60 voices and the 12-piece instrumental ensemble which will accompany them are under the musical direction of Linda Houck, Joseph Moffitt, and Geri Seitzinger, directors of Liturgy and Music respectively at Holy Family Parish, SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish.
This group, working across the boundaries of Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, has recorded several CDs of sacred music. The Rev. Michael Zipay, pastor of Holy Family Parish, the Rev. David Cappelloni, pastor of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish, and the Rev. John Doris, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, invite the public to attend. There is no charge.

SHICKSHINNY: Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, will welcome Army Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Harlon Triplett as guest speaker at its 9 a.m. worship service on Sunday.
Triplett is a retired chaplain of 22 years with the 82nd Airborne Division, Special Forces/Special Operations.
SWOYERSVILLE: The Confraternity of Catholic Women of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's Parish will hold its Christmas party on Dec. 9 following the 11:30 a.m. Mass in the church hall.
Members and guests are asked to meet at 11:15 a.m. in the church hall to attend the service in a group.
Their pastor and spiritual moderator, the Rev. Joseph Pisaneschi, will preside.
Dinner will be served at 1 p.m. and catered by Ann Voitek's Catering of West Wyoming. Deadline with payment of $12 should be made by Dec. 2 by calling Madeleine Barush or Fran Krajnak. Payment can be dropped in the collection basket or at the rectory office.
Table reservations of eight can be made when calling in a reservation. A $5 door prize donation for those attending is optional. The party is open to all women of the parish and their guests. You do not have to be a member of the Confraternity to attend.
Oplatky or the Christmas wafer will be exchanged among those attending.
Newly elected officers for 2013 and 2014 will be installed prior to the party. They include Madeleine Barush, president; Pat Quinn, vice president; Martha Dougalas, recording secretary; Joanne Baker, treasurer and Mary Zukosky, publicity.
WILKES-BARRE: St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, 143 W. Division St., will host an Advent Concert-Hymnfest at 7 p.m. Dec. 2.
The concert will be presented by the music ministries of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish and Exaltation of the Holy Cross and will feature the adult and youth choirs from both parishes.
