ASHLEY: Ashley Presbyterian Church, 32 North Main St., will hold its annual candlelight service at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Churches participating are: St Leo's/ Holy Rosary Church, Centenary United Methodist Church, and the host church Ashley Presbyterian.
Musical selections from all three churches will be presented. A special piano solo will be performed by Marianne Salius.
The St. Leo's /Holy Rosary choir will be performing, under the musical direction of Joe Dubinski. The program is under the direction of Elaine Kosmach, organist of the Ashley Presbyterian Church. Pastor of the church is the Rev. Rebecca Tanner.
LUZERNE COUNTY: Donations are being sought for the Heidi Mitchneck Seeherman annual toy drive.
An unwrapped new toy can be brought to the Jewish Community Center, Temple B'nai B'rith, Temple Israel or the United Hebrew Institute by Monday. The toys will be gifted to local children ages 5-12 from needy homes.
MOUNTAIN TOP: St. Paul's Lutheran Church has announced the following:
• A Christmas Celebration will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The event will begin with a family-style Christmas dinner, with all the trimmings, and will be followed by all the sights and sounds of the Christmas season. Dinner tickets are $20 for a family or $7 per adult. A sign-up sheet is available on the table outside of the pastor's office. The traditional Hanging of the Greens will begin at 7 p.m.
• This year's children's Christmas program will be held at the 11 a.m. service on Dec. 23. Christmas Eve services will be held at 5:30, 7:30 and 11 p.m. on Dec. 24.
• St. Paul's next meeting of WELCA's will be held at 12:30 p.m. Dec.12 at The Chalet Restaurant. Those attending are asked to bring a new $5 wrapped gift for the game.
• The Hoagie Gang will meet for a Christmas get-together at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 19 at The Chalet.
PLAINS TWP.: The Womens Society of SS. Peter and Paul Church will host its annual Christmas party on Jan. 13, 2013, at the Quality Inn, Kidder Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Reservations are being accepted. Entertainment will be provided by The Changing Habits.

SCRANTON: On Friday, at 4:15 p.m., the Little Sisters of the Poor will welcome the Most Rev. John M. Dougherty, auxiliary bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Scranton, to Holy Family Residence, 2500 Adams Ave. Bishop Dougherty will provide attendees with an informative talk entitled, Waiting with Mary – Longing for God. There will also be prayer and benediction. The sacrament of reconciliation will also be available.
The event is free and open to the public.
SWEET VALLEY: The Sweet Valley Church of Christ, 5439 Main Road, will hold a Christmas Candle Light Communion Service at 7 p.m. Dec. 19.
