PITTSBURGH — Steelers left guard Willie Colon practiced for the second consecutive day Friday and is listed as probable, as Pittsburgh prepares to play San Diego on Sunday.
Colon has missed two games due to a left knee bruise. On Thursday, he said he would be a game-time decision. Last week, in a 23-20 win over Baltimore, All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey moved over to take his place, while Doug Legursky started at center.
The Steelers (7-5) announced Thursday that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger would return for the game against the Chargers (4-8) as well. Joining him will be receiver Jerricho Cotchery, who missed time with a rib injury.
Fullback Will Johnson (concussion) and safety Ryan Clark (hip) are among other Steelers listed as probable. All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu will play after practicing Friday following two days off. Polamalu played sparingly vs. the Ravens.
Linebacker LaMarr Woodley, however, will miss his second consecutive game due to a high ankle sprain sustained two weeks ago.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee middle linebacker Colin McCarthy will miss his second consecutive game with a concussion, and his sixth overall, when the Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
McCarthy was held out of practice Friday after practicing some Wednesday and Thursday. But coach Mike Munchak said Friday the defensive captain is not ready to play a game right now. McCarthy also has missed four games this season with a high right ankle sprain.
But left tackle Michael Roos returned to practice Friday with his sprained right knee and is questionable. Munchak expects Roos to play against the Colts.
The Titans (4-8) also ruled out receiver Damian Williams with a hamstring injury and may promote receiver Michael Preston from the practice squad before kickoff.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Rex Ryan says he'll make a game-time decision on whether Tim Tebow plays in the New York Jets' game in Jacksonville against the Jaguars on Sunday.
Tebow, healing from two broken ribs, will travel to his hometown with the team and Ryan will determine before the game if the backup quarterback plays. Ryan says Tebow, who was limited all week in practice, did a lot more on the field than he had in previous weeks.
If Tebow can play, Ryan says Friday it's possible all three quarterbacks — Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and Tebow — could be active.
Tight end Dustin Keller will likely not play after being sidelined all week at practice with a sprained left ankle. He's listed as doubtful, while wide receiver Clyde Gates (concussion) is out.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jaguars have ruled wide receiver Cecil Shorts out for Sunday's game against the New York Jets due to concussion symptoms.
Shorts' symptoms are the result of a hit he took during Jacksonville's game against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday. Shorts passed his concussion test earlier in the week but he has exhibited concussion symptoms and has not practiced all week.
He has team-bests of 43 receptions, 824 yards and seven touchdowns through 12 games. He ranks second in the NFL with a 19.2 yard average per reception and is second in the league with four receptions of 50-plus yards.
LAKE FOREST, Ill. — The Chicago Bears have ruled out cornerback Tim Jennings for Sunday's game at Minnesota because of a shoulder injury and listed receivers Alshon Jeffery and Devin Hester as probable.
Jennings, the league leader with eight interceptions, was injured last week against Seattle. He was officially ruled out Friday, joining linebacker Brian Urlacher (hamstring) and receiver Earl Bennett (concussion) on the shelf.
Jeffery appears poised to return after sitting out the past two games with a knee injury. He went through a full practice Friday, as did Hester after missing a game with a concussion.
