Diabetic education session scheduled Feb. 6

The upcoming diabetic education session, sponsored by Allied Services Integrated Health System Home Health Division, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 6 in the John Heinz board room, 150 Mundy St., Wilkes-Barre.

Kick-off open house slated for autism walk

The Autism Coalition of Luzerne County Walk Committee will hold a kick off night from 4–7 p.m. today at the River Grille, 670 North River St., Plains Township.


In preparation for the sixth annual ACLC Walk, community, walkers and teams are invited to gather to share ideas on how to raise funds and make the biggest impact through their involvement. Walkers and teams from previous years are encouraged to bring a friend and receive a chance for the door prize. Refreshments will be provided.

Blue Ribbon Foundation accepting proposals

The Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania is now accepting proposals for its first grant cycle of 2013.


Applications must be received electronically by 5 p.m. March 8 to be considered.


Non-profit, 501(c)(3) organizations located in and serving the Foundation's 13-county service area, which includes Bradford, Carbon, Clinton, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Sullivan, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming counties, may submit proposals for health and wellness projects under The Foundation's Mini-Grant, Impact Grant and Access to Health Care for the Uninsured and Underinsured Grant categories.

Free bereavement support group series at Geisinger

The Spiritual Care team at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center will host two free seven-week Living with Grief support groups each Wednesday beginning Feb. 6. Day sessions will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and evening sessions will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m.


All sessions are held in the Spiritual Center at GWV, 1000 East Mountain Blvd., Plains Township. It is recommended that participants attend all sessions in the series. The interactive sessions are confidential. Light refreshments will be served. Kathleen Kaskel, R.N., who serves as a chaplain at GWV, will facilitate.


A memorial service will conclude the series from 6 – 7:30 p.m. March 20.
